Job DescriptionGPS / Machine Control Manager Location: Jacksonville, FL Employment Type: Full-Time At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., accuracy, accountability, and teamwork drive everything we build. We’re looking for a GPS / Machine Control Manager who is passionate about leveraging technology to maximize efficiency and precision on our construction projects. This role ensures that our field teams have the data, equipment, and training they need to perform at the highest level—bridging the gap between design models and jobsite execution to deliver excellence every time. What You’ll Do Project Setup & Modeling * Prepare GPS-ready project models from site plans, grading designs, and construction drawings. * Manage 3D model creation, localizations, and calibration data for all projects. * Verify design integrity, coordinate with engineers and project teams, and ensure proper data flow to the field. Surveying & Site Verification * Perform site calibrations, control checks, progress surveys, and as-built data collection. * Validate and document the accuracy of GPS and machine control data across active sites. * Provide support for layout and staking as needed. Training & Technical Support * Train and coach operators, foremen, and superintendents on GPS-enabled equipment, including Leica, Trimble, or Topcon systems. * Serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting GPS, rover, and machine control issues. * Assist with onboarding new field technology and optimizing workflows. Data & Equipment Management * Maintain all GPS-related hardware and software, including firmware updates, storage, and backups. * Coordinate with vendors for repairs, calibrations, and upgrades. * Manage GPS data library and ensure consistent use of standards across all jobs. Cross-Functional Collaboration * Work with project managers, survey, and estimating teams to align site setup, control, and data accuracy. * Communicate effectively with leadership and field personnel to keep projects on schedule and within tolerance. What We’re Looking For Experience & Education * 2+ years of experience with GPS machine control, surveying, or civil construction technology. * Working knowledge of Leica software and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred. * Understanding of survey control, coordinate systems, and digital terrain models. * Experience managing GPS data for earthwork, utilities, or treatment plant projects highly desired. * OSHA-10 certification (or willingness to obtain). Skills & Attributes * Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. * Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments. * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams, Outlook). * Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and proactive with a focus on continuous improvement. Physical & Work Requirements * Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting, lifting, and equipment handling. * Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs. * Work outdoors in various weather conditions and across multiple job sites. * Required PPE: hard hat, eye/ear protection, high-visibility apparel.
