Job DescriptionJob Title: Boiler Field Service Technician Job Description The Boiler Field Service Technician installs, services, and repairs hydronic and boiler systems at customer sites across the Midwest, Louisiana, East Texas, and the Houston area. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and PLC-related issues on packaged boiler systems while providing excellent on-site customer service and thorough documentation of all work performed. Responsibilities • Travel extensively (approximately 95%) to customer sites across the Midwest, Louisiana, East Texas, and the Houston area to service and repair hydronic and boiler systems., • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair boiler and hydronic systems, including mechanical, plumbing, and high-voltage electrical components., • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and program PLC-based control systems associated with packaged boiler equipment., • Perform combustion analysis and adjust systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant boiler operation., • Interpret and work from mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation to complete installations and repairs., • Replace and repair plumbing and mechanical parts related to boiler and hydronic systems in accordance with applicable mechanical codes., • Use field service software on a company laptop to document all work orders, including detailed notes, parts used, and work performed., • Maintain accurate and timely job documentation, reports, and service records for each customer visit., • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers to understand issues, explain findings, and recommend corrective actions or maintenance plans., • Operate and care for company-provided vehicle, laptop, cell phone, and credit card in accordance with company policies., • Use personal hand tools (metric and standard) and test equipment safely and effectively during field service work., • Participate in an on-call rotation, typically one weekend per month, to respond to urgent service needs., • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of steel-toed footwear and appropriate work attire, while working in boiler rooms and mechanical spaces., • Collaborate with internal teams as needed to resolve complex technical issues and support customer satisfaction., • Work independently in the field as a self-starter, managing time, travel, and job priorities to meet customer and company expectations.Essential Skills, • 5+ years of HVAC service experience, preferably with hydronic or boiler systems., • Hands-on experience with hydronic or boiler systems, including service, repair, and maintenance., • Proficiency in PLC installation, troubleshooting, repair, and programming for boiler or HVAC-related controls., • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems as they relate to boiler and hydronic equipment., • Ability to perform combustion analysis and adjust systems for safe and efficient operation., • Strong field service troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and control systems., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation., • Understanding of plumbing and mechanical systems relevant to packaged boiler equipment., • Familiarity with mechanical codes and standards applicable to boiler and hydronic installations., • Experience working in boiler rooms or similar mechanical environments., • Proficiency with basic computer skills, including use of field service software and common office applications., • Ability to complete extensive job documentation accurately and efficiently using a company laptop., • Excellent customer service and communication skills when interacting with clients on-site., • Proven ability to work independently in the field as a self-starter and manage multiple service assignments., • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently for extended periods (typically 1–2 weeks at a time).Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with hydronic systems in addition to traditional HVAC service work., • Background or exposure to stationary engineering or boiler room operations., • Familiarity with PLC controls, PLC programming, PLC troubleshooting, and PLC maintenance in industrial or commercial environments., • Knowledge of boiler systems, boiler room operations, and combustion processes., • Experience with plumbing and mechanical codes related to boiler and hydronic installations., • Comfort working with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing tools and test equipment in the field., • Proficiency with common office software such as email, spreadsheets, and word processing tools., • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting service work and following up on open issues., • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing schedules and travel requirements.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a field-based role with approximately 95% travel to customer sites, primarily across the Midwest, Louisiana, East Texas, and the Houston area. You typically spend 1–2 weeks on the road at a time, with scheduling aimed at having you home on weekends when possible, depending on customer needs. You participate in an on-call rotation about one weekend per month to handle urgent service calls. The work is performed in boiler rooms, mechanical spaces, and plant environments where you interact directly with customers to assess issues, perform repairs, and recommend solutions. You use a company vehicle for travel, along with a company laptop, cell phone, credit card, and gas card to manage transportation, lodging, and documentation. The typical workweek averages 40–50 hours on a day shift schedule, with exact start times varying by assignment. Sunday work is compensated at double time. The dress code at customer sites generally includes steel-toed footwear, jeans, and a company-provided shirt, reflecting a practical and safety-focused work environment that involves hands-on mechanical and electrical tasks.
