Job Description Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Administrator – Job Description Position Summary The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Administrator is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day operations of the surgery center. This executive role ensures the delivery of exceptional patient care while maintaining regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, financial performance, and a culture of quality and safety. The Administrator partners closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and administrative staff to optimize patient outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and support the center's long-term growth and success. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) or hospital surgical services with direct exposure to ASC operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational Leadership • Direct and oversee all clinical, financial, and administrative operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Center., • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve operational performance, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes., • Ensure efficient daily operations, including scheduling, staffing, workflow optimization, and resource utilization., • Foster a collaborative culture focused on patient safety, quality care, and operational excellence. Financial Management • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual operating and capital budgets., • Analyze financial performance, productivity, and key performance indicators (KPIs)., • Identify opportunities to improve profitability while maintaining high-quality patient care., • Oversee revenue cycle performance, supply chain management, purchasing, and vendor relationships., • Ensure responsible fiscal management and cost-effective utilization of resources. Clinical Quality & Regulatory Compliance • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS, AAAHC, The Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA, and other applicable accreditation standards., • Lead quality improvement initiatives and risk management programs., • Monitor patient safety indicators, infection prevention measures, and clinical quality metrics., • Prepare for and manage regulatory surveys, accreditation reviews, and inspections., • Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and clinical practice standards. Leadership & Staff Management • Recruit, hire, develop, mentor, and evaluate management and staff., • Promote employee engagement, accountability, and professional development., • Establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations., • Foster a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement., • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives. Physician & Medical Staff Relations • Build and maintain strong relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and medical staff., • Collaborate with physician partners to improve efficiency, patient outcomes, and service offerings., • Address physician concerns and identify opportunities to enhance physician satisfaction and engagement. Patient Experience • Ensure exceptional patient-centered care throughout the surgical experience., • Monitor patient satisfaction metrics and implement improvement initiatives., • Develop processes that enhance patient safety, education, communication, and overall experience. Business Development & Strategic Planning • Identify opportunities for service line expansion and operational growth., • Participate in strategic planning and market analysis initiatives., • Develop and implement initiatives to increase surgical volume and strengthen community partnerships., • Support physician recruitment and new program development as appropriate. Human Resources • Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on patient volume and operational needs., • Maintain compliance with employment laws, organizational policies, and workforce regulations., • Support employee retention and engagement initiatives. Communication & Collaboration • Serve as the primary liaison between physicians, staff, executive leadership, and external stakeholders., • Communicate organizational goals, performance metrics, and operational updates effectively., • Participate in governing board meetings and provide operational and financial reports. Qualifications Education • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field required., • Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MSN, or related healthcare field) preferred. Experience • Minimum of 5 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience., • Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Administrator experience preferred., • Hospital perioperative or surgical services leadership experience with direct ASC exposure will also be considered., • Experience managing budgets, quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Certifications • Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) preferred., • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure preferred but not required, depending on state regulations and organizational requirements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Strong knowledge of Ambulatory Surgery Center operations and regulatory requirements., • Thorough understanding of CMS Conditions for Coverage, accreditation standards, and healthcare compliance., • Demonstrated financial management, budgeting, and business planning expertise., • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills., • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities., • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills., • Ability to lead organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives., • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), surgery center management systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Working Conditions • Full-time leadership position within an Ambulatory Surgery Center., • Frequent interaction with physicians, patients, staff, vendors, and executive leadership., • May require occasional evening or weekend availability based on operational needs., • Ability to respond to urgent operational or patient care issues as necessary. Salary range is $120,000.00 to $175,000.00
