You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are confident in managing a classroom while maintaining a positive and productive learning atmosphere.As an In-House Substitute Teacher, you will provide instruction and classroom leadership in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. You will ensure continuity of learning while fostering a safe, respectful, and engaging environment for students.As the In-House Substitute Teacher, you will:Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher to maintain a consistent learning experience for students.Deliver instruction and facilitate learning activities appropriate to the grade level and subject area.Maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation and minimizes distractions.Manage classroom routines, procedures, and student behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations.Adapt instructional strategies and activities to meet the individual needs of students.Provide in-class assignments and, when applicable, at-home assignments based on the lesson plans and materials provided.Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including hallways, playgrounds, cafeteria, and other designated areas.Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.Support students in following classroom, school-wide, and behavioral expectations.Communicate student concerns, classroom issues, and relevant observations to the appropriate teacher or school administrator.Maintain appropriate classroom records and documentation as required.Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a successful school day for students.For long-term substitute assignments, develop lesson plans, instructional activities, and assignments that align with the regular teacher's curriculum and instructional practices.Participate in school-wide events, scheduled meetings, and other school activities as assigned.CORE VALUES/PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES: Promote positive interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.Be responsible, flexible, reliable, and punctual.Demonstrate patience, compassion, and professionalism when working with students.Willingness to adapt to changing classroom and school needs.Positively accept direction and feedback from supervisors.Exercise positive problem-solving behavior and conflict-resolution skills.Adhere to the policies, procedures, and expectations outlined by Sun Valley Academy.Maintain student and staff confidentiality when appropriate.Act as a positive role model for students and staff.Show respect and dignity for cultural differences.Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members.Support a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.COMPETENCIES:Strong oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise students of various ages.Ability to manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment.Ability to follow lesson plans and written and verbal instructions.Ability to adapt instruction and classroom routines to meet individual student and classroom needs.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.General knowledge of a variety of academic subjects.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Basic proficiency with classroom technology and computer systems.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid and current Substitute Teacher Certificate.Bachelor's Degree in Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education or a related field.Strong English verbal and written communication skills.Valid CPR and First Aid Certification (Must be tested and obtained from in-person course)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Arizona Teaching Certificate, or Reciprocal Out-Of-State CertificateMaster's Degree or higherPrevious classroom, teaching, substitute teaching, tutoring, or youth-related experience.Experience working with students in an educational setting.Arizona Teaching Certificate.Experience working with multiple grade levels.Knowledge of classroom management strategies and student-centered learning practices.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Positions in this classification typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, fingering, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.Employees must be subject to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Employees must be able to physically manage a classroom with small children ensuring the safety of the children at all times.ABOUT USSun Valley Academy is a premier charter school district serving students in the Avondale, Glendale, and South Mountain communities.
