New York
The Opportunity Good Company is a neighborhood cannabis store opening this spring on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The name carries a double meaning — we are the good company you keep, and we are a good company that operates with integrity, warmth, and care for our community. We're looking for a General Manager to be our first hire and the person who shapes everything from here. You'll build the team, set the tone, and run daily operations for a store designed to feel like visiting a trusted neighbor — not a transaction. If you've managed a cannabis retail location (or a high-touch retail environment) and you want to help build something from the ground up in one of New York's best neighborhoods, we'd love to meet you. Compensation: $75,000 – $95,000 + bonus Location: 2273 Broadway, NYC Start Date: Immediate Reports To: Owner What You'll Do This is a building role, not a maintenance role. You'll be here before the doors open, and you'll be the reason they open smoothly. Expect to be hands-on and on the floor daily, especially in the first 90 days. • Hire, train, and lead a team of 6–10 in time for our April opening, • Own day-to-day store operations: opening and closing procedures, scheduling, cash management, customer experience, • Manage full regulatory compliance including Metrc seed-to-sale tracking, OCM workforce training, and inspection readiness, • Configure and oversee POS systems, inventory management, and Metrc integration, • Develop SOPs for every aspect of the operation: from receiving inventory to handling returns to emergency procedures, • Build vendor relationships and manage purchasing to keep shelves stocked with a thoughtful, well-curated product mix, • Create a store culture that reflects our brand: warm, knowledgeable, inclusive, and rooted in the neighborhood, • Monitor sales data, manage budgets, and report on KPIs to ownership, • Ensure the team delivers the kind of experience where first-timers and connoisseurs alike feel welcome Who You Are You're someone who takes pride in running a tight operation without losing the human touch. You know cannabis, you know retail, and you know how to bring out the best in a team. • 2+ years of management experience in cannabis retail, or 3+ years in specialty, luxury, or high-touch retail with strong cannabis knowledge, • Working knowledge of New York cannabis regulations and OCM compliance requirements (or demonstrated ability to get up to speed fast in a regulated industry), • Hands-on experience with seed-to-sale tracking systems: Metrc strongly preferred, BioTrack also valued, • Proven ability to hire, train, and retain great people, • Comfortable with POS systems, inventory management software, and the operational side of retail, • Strong understanding of cannabis products across all categories: flower, concentrates, edibles, vapes, tinctures, topicals, • You communicate clearly, handle pressure well, and lead by example, • Must be 21 or older What Sets You Apart • You've opened a cannabis retail location before: you know the chaos and the checklist, • You've passed an OCM inspection or managed Metrc compliance in New York State, • You have relationships with licensed cultivators, processors, or distributors in the NY market, • You've engaged with community boards, local stakeholders, or neighborhood groups as part of a retail or regulated business What We Offer • Competitive salary ($75K–$95K) with performance-based bonus, • The opportunity to be the foundational hire at a brand-new store — your fingerprints will be on everything, • A beautiful, thoughtfully designed retail space on one of Manhattan's most iconic avenues, • A brand and ownership team that values doing things the right way — licensed, compliant, transparent, • Health insurance, paid time off, and NYC Paid Safe & Sick Leave from day one, • Employee discount and access to industry events, • A team and culture you'll actually want to show up for Interested?
