Position Overview The General Manager will lead the strategic, operational, and cultural vision for Austin Proper Hotel, positioning it as the preeminent luxury destination in Austin and a flagship within the Proper portfolio. This role requires an accomplished hospitality executive with deep expertise in luxury hotel operations, award-winning food and beverage, wellness programming, membership models, and high-touch guest experiences. The General Manager is expected to be a confident adopter and champion of AI tools — embedding intelligent technology across revenue management, guest communications, F&B operations, people management, and financial controls. Comfort with data-driven decision-making and the ability to build a team culture around AI fluency are non-negotiable expectations of this role. The General Manager will be responsible for delivering exceptional financial performance, cultivating a high-performing leadership team, and ensuring that every guest, member, and employee experience reflects the refined, design-forward, and culturally vibrant ethos of Proper. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership • Define and execute the long-term business strategy for a $72M+ operation, • Position the hotel as the leading luxury destination in Austin, • Honor Austin Proper’s earned reputation while continuously evolving it for a discerning modern luxury audience, • Serve as the primary representative of the property to ownership, community leaders, and partners Operational Excellence • Oversee all hotel operations including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa & Wellness, Membership, and Events, • Ensure seamless integration across hotel programming, F&B outlets, and wellness experiences, • Drive and protect Forbes Four-Star and Michelin Key service standards across every guest touchpoint, • Maintain full compliance with all applicable local and state regulatory frameworks Financial Performance • Deliver on revenue, GOP, and EBITDA targets across a $72M+ multi-stream operation, • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning processes, • Optimize yield management across rooms, F&B, wellness, and membership revenue streams, • Identify and execute strategic partnerships and incremental revenue opportunities Brand & Guest Experience • Uphold Proper’s modern luxury aesthetic and experiential standards at every level, • Champion design-forward programming, culinary innovation, and cultural relevance, • Curate distinctive experiences that authentically reflect Austin’s dynamic culture and creative spirit, • Protect and continuously grow the hotel’s Michelin Key, Forbes Four-Star, and Top 500 Hotels in the World standing Food & Beverage Leadership • Oversee an award-winning, $32M+ F&B operation spanning Peacock, La Piscina, Kappo Kappo, Peacock Lounge, Goldies, Quill, and In-Room Dining, • Champion culinary excellence, beverage innovation, and operational discipline across all F&B venues, • Develop programming and activations that position Austin Proper as the city’s premier dining and social destination Wellness Integration • Position Verbena, the hotel’s Forbes Four-Star spa, as the definitive wellness destination in Austin, • Integrate outdoor, wellness, and fitness programming seamlessly into the full guest journey, • Develop and grow membership and wellness-driven revenue strategies Proper Club Leadership • Build and cultivate an exclusive, vibrant membership community reflective of Austin’s creative and cultural class, • Oversee member acquisition, retention, programming, and experience quality, • Ensure Proper Club functions as a year-round social and cultural hub at the heart of Austin Talent & Culture • Recruit, develop, and retain a best-in-class executive leadership team, • Foster a culture of service excellence, creativity, accountability, and inclusion, • Serve as a visible, inspirational leader throughout every level of the property AI Integration & Technology Leadership Proper Hotels operates on an AI-first foundation. The General Manager is expected to lead by example — actively using AI tools, driving adoption across the leadership team, and building a property culture where data fluency and intelligent automation are part of daily operations. Austin Proper runs on Proper OS: a unified intelligence layer built on a Snowflake data foundation, a Notion knowledge base, and AI agents that span every operational function — from revenue management and guest communications to F&B forecasting, housekeeping scheduling, financial controls, people operations, and sales. The General Manager serves as the executive sponsor of Proper OS at the property level, ensuring that every department head operates within this framework and that AI adoption is treated as a leadership competency, not an optional tool.
