Job Description Job Title: Machine Saw Operator Job Description The Machine Saw Operator sets up and operates saws to cut metal materials to precise customer specifications in a fast-paced warehouse and production environment. This role combines hands-on machine operation, material handling, and inventory control while ensuring accuracy, safety, and quality throughout the cutting process. The position offers multiple shift options and involves working closely with work orders, blueprints, and measurement tools to meet customer requirements. Responsibilities • Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications., • Set up and safely operate saws and related processing equipment to meet set-up note and work order requirements., • Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure correct material, size, and specifications., • Read and interpret blueprints, set-up notes, and written work instructions to run saws to exact specifications., • Perform accurate inventory control for each work order, using math skills and measurement tools to track material usage and remaining stock., • Verify that processed product meets required specifications, record inspection measurements, and follow sampling plans., • Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload materials safely., • Properly enter and delete material identification tags according to written instructions to maintain accurate traceability., • Operate weighing scales correctly and record inspection measurements as required., • Identify, record, and segregate scrap and non-conforming material in accordance with quality procedures., • Assist in packaging material according to written work instructions and work order requirements., • Maintain issued measurement equipment, ensuring it remains in proper working condition., • Perform equipment preventive maintenance and report any issues affecting machine efficiency or product quality., • Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine performance, process improvements, and product quality concerns., • Maintain the processing area, equipment, and workstations in a clean, safe, and orderly condition., • Perform general clean-up duties in the warehouse and production areas as needed., • Complete all required information entry accurately and in a timely manner., • Communicate with the appropriate sales or internal contacts regarding order changes or clarifications when needed., • Train other team members in saw operation, material handling, or related tasks when required., • Participate in and support lean and quality improvement activities., • Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation experience working around metals such as sheet metal and aluminum in a manufacturing or warehouse environment., • Proven ability to set up and operate saws and related metal cutting equipment to precise specifications., • Demonstrated experience handling inventory control for each work order, including tracking material usage and remaining stock using basic math., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and written work instructions to run saws to specification., • Ability to read a ruler and use hand-held measuring tools accurately for length, thickness, and dimensional checks., • High school diploma or GED., • Ability to read and write to understand work orders, safety instructions, and documentation., • Ability to perform basic math skills for measurements, counts, and inventory tracking., • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds as part of daily tasks., • Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment or the ability to become certified., • Ability to operate cranes and other material handling equipment safely, once certified., • Computer literacy sufficient to enter data, update work orders, and manage material tags., • Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining accuracy and quality., • Previous warehouse experience, ideally 3+ years in a manufacturing or distribution environment., • Previous experience in the metals industry, including working with sheet metal, aluminum, or similar materials., • Prior forklift experience and readiness to obtain or maintain certification as required., • Experience using hand-held measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers., • Experience in machine operation in an industrial environment, including equipment such as bandsaws, drill presses, waterjet machines, CNC equipment, or similar machinery., • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and quality improvement practices., • Ability to train and mentor other team members in safe and efficient machine and material handling practices. Work Environment This position is based in a warehouse and production environment that operates on multiple shifts, including 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.). Some related roles may follow standard daytime hours such as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on department needs. The work involves standing, walking, and moving materials throughout the shift, as well as lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds. You will work around industrial metal-processing equipment such as saws, cranes, forklifts, weighing scales, and other material handling tools in a fast-paced setting. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and safety, requiring adherence to all safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The environment is production-focused, with an emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and maintaining an orderly workspace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.20 - $22.20/hr.
