American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. • Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 01/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry position in an acute care setting requiring a current CA RN license and strong cardiac monitoring skills. • Work in a 39-bed mixed Med/Surg and Telemetry unit within an acute hospital setting, • Care for diverse populations including acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients (bariatrics and total joints), stroke patients, and patients requiring non-titratable drips, • Patient ratios are typically 1:4 for tele patients and 1:5 for Med/Surg, with a mix possible each shift, • Uses Cerner EMR; recent Cerner experience is preferred, • Required to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms using Phillips telemetry equipment, • Shift is 12-hour nights with a requirement to work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, • Travelers are the first to float and may float between units, including MedSurg, Tele, ICU for MedSurg patients, or ED for MedSurg Tele holds, • No IV team; CNAs scheduled based on census; 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support, • Primary duties include managing admissions, discharges, and care for a high turnover, fast-paced patient population, • Support from a house supervisor 24/7 and Nurse Manager during normal business hours as well as a Charge Nurse or Break Nurse per shift, • Must be comfortable with bariatric and orthopedic post-operative care, as well as stroke, and managing set-rate infusions (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin), • Travelers must wear navy blue scrubs; jackets and undershirts must be navy, white, or black, • Mandatory participation in staff holiday rotation, working at least one major and one minor holiday as part of the team, • Attendance and punctuality are strictly enforced, with mandatory AM huddles and specific break coverage, • Initial orientation consists of 1–2 shifts, with up to 3 for those without recent Cerner experience, • High patient acuity and frequent admissions/discharges require strong organizational skills, • Active, unencumbered CA RN license required at time of consideration, • Minimum of 3 years RN experience with relevant Med/Surg Tele background, • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, all current at time of consideration, • Ability to confidently read and interpret all cardiac rhythms, • Cerner EMR experience preferred; may test out of training if experienced, • Must provide a copy of driver's license for consideration, • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility, • Cannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year in any capacity except PRN through outside firms, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy, • Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-648530.
