Job Description Soldering Technician / SMT Operator 1st or 2nd shift $20 - $24/hr Job Description This role focuses on operating and supporting surface-mount technology (SMT) production lines to deliver high-quality electronic assemblies. You will set up, program, and run SMT equipment such as screen printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens while performing soldering tasks and inspections. You will work in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment, ensuring efficient throughput and adherence to strict quality and IPC standards. Responsibilities • Set up, program, and operate SMT assembly line equipment, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens., • Perform hand soldering and rework on printed circuit boards (PCBs) using appropriate tools and techniques., • Conduct solder paste inspection, first article inspection, and AOI (automated optical inspection) to verify product quality., • Read and interpret work instructions, bills of materials (BOMs), and basic PCB layouts to ensure correct assembly and component placement., • Apply knowledge of surface-mount technology and IPC-A-610 standards to maintain consistent quality and workmanship., • Monitor SMT lines and equipment performance, identifying and troubleshooting minor machine or process issues to minimize downtime., • Perform PCB defect analysis and take corrective actions in alignment with quality and lean manufacturing practices., • Use machine interfaces, MES, and ERP systems to enter production data, track work orders, and document process information., • Follow established quality control procedures and maintain strong attention to detail throughout the production process., • Collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor., • Adhere to ESD and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe operation of automated equipment., • Maintain a clean and organized work area and support efficient workflow in a fast-paced production environment. Essential Skills • 1–3 years of experience in SMT or electronics manufacturing., • Proficiency in soldering, including hand soldering and surface-mount soldering on PCBs., • Hands-on experience with SMT equipment operation, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens., • Ability to perform basic machine programming and setup for SMT lines., • Strong attention to detail and quality control in a production environment., • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, BOMs, and basic PCB layouts., • Knowledge of IPC standards, with IPC-A-610 preferred., • Ability to perform first article inspection and AOI inspection., • Basic computer literacy, including use of machine interfaces and MES systems., • Experience with solder paste inspection and PCB defect analysis., • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles., • Experience using ERP systems in a manufacturing setting., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precision work., • Ability to stand for extended periods during production shifts., • Basic math and measurement skills., • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team., • Willingness to learn and grow within a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Technical training in electronics, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred., • Experience working under IPC-A-610 or similar industry standards., • Prior exposure to continuous improvement initiatives and lean practices., • Comfort working with microscopes and other inspection tools for detailed PCB work., • Interest in developing skills toward technician, programmer, or engineering career paths., • Openness to pursuing additional training and certifications, including IPC and equipment-specific certifications. Work Environment You will work in a clean, climate-controlled electronics manufacturing facility designed for precision SMT and soldering operations. The production floor is fast-paced and equipped with automated machinery, including screen printers, pick-and-place systems, and reflow ovens. You will use appropriate personal protective equipment, including ESD protection and other safety gear, in accordance with company policies. The environment is team-oriented with clear production targets, regular interaction with advanced electronics and inspection tools, and a strong emphasis on safety, organization, and consistent process adherence. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Garland, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
