Job Description The newly established School of Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Sciences is the largest School at Georgian Court University, with approximately 65 faculty housed in seven academic departments. The school includes 760 undergraduate students in 23 programs and 300 graduate students in 11 programs. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean provides leadership in the development, delivery, and continued excellence of academic programs and services; in the recruitment, management, evaluation, and development of the faculty; and in the efficient allocation of the resources. The Dean will be expected to take a vibrant leadership role in recruiting and retaining students, with special attention to the support of the new general education program, growth of the academic degree programs, and representation of the needs and interests of the School to the University A School Dean shall be appointed to and hold at minimum the rank of Professor with tenure. The term of an initial appointment as School Dean shall be for one year, renewable for further three-year terms after evaluation and upon recommendation to the President. Georgian Court University is a private Catholic residential university in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, United States. Founded in 1908 by the Sisters of Mercy, the university enrolls more than 1,600 undergraduates and nearly 600 graduate students. This is a 12-month appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. Essential Functions: • Advance the Mission of the University in the Mercy tradition, and provide academic and administrative leadership for the School, • Lead the process of new academic program development, program revision, and program review in collaboration with faculty members, • Lead the preparation for accreditation or approval of School programs by relevant state, regional national, and professional accrediting agencies, • Develop and monitor plans for student enrollment and retention in each of the undergraduate and graduate programs, including summer term enrollments, • Assure that courses are scheduled to meet the needs of students, to optimize facility use and to balance faculty workloads, • Plan, administer, and assess all School activities, and resources: e.g., equipment, budget, and facilities, • Make recommendations on personnel matters, e.g., initial appointments, promotions, sabbaticals, leaves, salary adjustments, release time and other faculty and staff issues, • Conduct formative and summative evaluations of faculty and staff in accordance with institutional policy and in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources, • Encourage and facilitate faculty scholarship, participation in professional societies, and engagement in professional development activities, • Administer appeals on grade changes, academic dishonesty and misconduct through mediation where possible, and final decision where necessary, • Represent the School in the governance of the University, participate in community outreach and represent the University in national higher education organizations, • A doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution in a field related to one of the disciplines represented in the School, • No less than ten years of faculty experience in higher education, and no less than three years of administrative experience as a Department Chair or higher, • A hands-on leadership style with evidence of fostering a collegial, collaborative environment with faculty, students, staff, and administrators across the university., • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity among students and employees, • Experience in strategic planning, program assessment, budgeting and personnel management., • Experience in generating funding for instructional, research, service programs and/or facilities through grants, contracts and fundraising efforts., • Experience in and commitment to managing multiple instructional sites and varied student learning formats (i.e. hybrid, online, traditional).
