Job Description The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) of Overbrook School for the Blind exudes a passion for the school, its students, and its employees. This position will report directly to the Health Services Coordinator. The Mission of Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB) is to develop and deliver education that enhances the options available for persons with visual impairments, including those with additional challenges so that they have the greatest opportunity to experience active and fulfilling lives. Organizational Description: Overbrook School for the Blind serves students who are blind or visually impaired with or without additional disabilities (such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, sensory issues, and including those who require specialized medical care) receive a customized, individualized education based on state educational standards. OSB is more than a school, it is a community where students, families, and staff support one another and come together to build a bright future. Job Functions: Licensed Practical Nurse will provide healthcare services to students in a school setting. Nurses will assess, plan, and implement care for students with chronic conditions, medical emergencies, and physical disabilities. Nurse will work closely with teachers, paraeducators, therapists, administrators, and parents to support the health and safety of all students Essential Functions: • Identifies, monitors, and manages students with chronic disease, health issues, and disabilities, and documents the services provided in accordance with orders and care plan., • Assess students' physical and emotional needs for any changes in condition and provide necessary interventions., • Regularly monitor students for changes in their physical or emotional health, including behavior and classroom performance, and take appropriate action., • Provides emergency crisis nursing care for physically and/or injured students and staff., • Maintains communicable disease prevention and control through education, policy, and enforcement., • Conducts physical healthcare assessments and screenings., • Provides counseling and guidance to students, parents, and staff regarding health-related attendance problems., • Administer medications, provide nutrition and gastrostomy tube feedings, basic first aid, and nursing care in response to medical emergencies (e.g., seizures, allergic reactions, injuries, respiratory distress)., • Maintains thorough and comprehensive health-related reports, daily reports, and emergency reports, and ensures compliance with policies and regulations., • Provides health education for use by students, families, and school personnel on subjects such as (but not limited to) gastronomy tube feeding instruction., • Maintains required certifications and licenses; attends training as required., • Communicates by phone or email to parents/families/guardians., • Responsible for daily clean up and wiping down surfaces to uphold sanitation standards as required for a safe school environment., • Required to attend scheduled shifts during regular business hours as mandated., • Provide compassionate nursing care and offer holistic care., • Develop and implement healthcare plans for students with chronic medical conditions or special needs in collaboration with parents, healthcare providers, and educational team members., • Provide health education and training to staff and students on medication management, infection control, first aid, seizure management, asthma care, and gastrostomy tube health management for specific conditions., • Maintain and update accurate health records, assessments, treatments, and care plans for students in compliance with school and state regulations., • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes educators, therapists, dietitians, counselors, and social workers., • Consistently monitor students for any changes in their physical or emotional health, including behavior, with the help of a behavior specialist, and take appropriate action., • Promote wellness and disease prevention by managing immunization records, allergies, and other common health concerns., • Provide a healthy and safe school environment., • Valid LPN/RN License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania., • BSN required., • Valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania., • BLS required., • Lifting: must be able to lift 50-lbs minimum. Participate in 2 person lifts.
