Job DescriptionJob Title: General LaborerJob Description This role supports the mill area of a woodworking manufacturing facility, where cabinets are processed before assembly. You will operate woodworking machinery to cut wood components to specification, verify measurements in inches using a tape measure, and move completed pieces to the assembly area. You may also be cross-trained in cabinet assembly, including drilling and installing hardware, and operating sanding equipment to finish wood surfaces. This position requires consistent physical activity, attention to detail, and a strong focus on safety and teamwork. Responsibilities • Operate woodworking machinery in the mill area to cut wood pieces according to specified measurements., • Use a tape measure to verify all measurements in inches and ensure accuracy before moving pieces to the next stage., • Transport processed cabinet components from the mill area to the assembly area in an organized and safe manner., • Assist in cabinet assembly by drilling, screwing, and installing hardware as needed., • Operate sanding machines to sand wood surfaces and ensure a smooth, finished product., • Perform basic addition and subtraction in inches to confirm measurements and make necessary adjustments., • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday., • Bend, kneel, and perform other physical movements required to handle materials and operate machinery safely., • Support team members by helping with additional tasks when your primary work is complete, maintaining a steady workflow., • Follow safety procedures at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of tools and machinery., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, keeping floors and work surfaces clear of debris as much as possible in a woodworking environment., • Participate in cross-training across departments such as finishing, assembly, knock-down, and painting as needed., • Work overtime and occasional Saturdays when required to meet production demands., • Complete a tape measure assessment during the in-person interview to demonstrate measurement skills.Essential Skills, • Ability to accurately use and read a tape measure in inches, verified through an assessment during the in-person interview., • Capability to perform basic addition and subtraction in inches to confirm measurements., • Ability to bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds consecutively throughout the workday., • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed and Saturdays for up to 8 hours when required., • Reliability in attendance and transportation to consistently meet scheduled shifts., • Comfort working in a woodworking manufacturing environment with wood dust and particles., • Comfort working in a team-oriented environment where many colleagues are Spanish speakers.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Carpentry or furniture assembly experience is a plus., • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are a plus., • Experience using hand tools and power tools in a general labor, carpentry, or woodworking setting., • Experience with heavy lifting and physically demanding work., • Ability to be self-directed, stay productive, and seek out additional tasks when primary work is complete., • Openness to cross-training in multiple departments such as mill, finishing, assembly, knock-down, and painting.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a woodworking manufacturing plant where wood dust and particles are present on the floor and in the air, and safety awareness is essential. Most openings are in the mill department, with potential work in finishing, assembly, knock-down, and painting. The primary shift runs Monday to Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., with initial training on first shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.) for approximately 1 to 3 weeks. Overtime is mandatory when required, and during busy periods you may work up to 60 hours per week, including temporary second-shift assignments for 3 to 4 months depending on production needs. The environment is highly team-oriented, with a majority of Spanish-speaking employees, and you are expected to work well with others, stay self-sufficient, and assist teammates when your tasks are complete. Dress requirements include closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, and back support if you have it, reflecting a strong emphasis on safety and proper use of personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
