Job DescriptionBe the wiring expert behind engineered-to-order power equipment Powell designs and builds engineered-to-order switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. As a Switchgear Wiring Technician in our Electrical Assembly department, you’ll turn detailed schematics into reliable, neatly routed wiring inside complex assemblies—working shoulder-to-shoulder with electricians and technicians to bring custom equipment to life. Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday–Thursday, 2:30pm–1:00am. A day in the role Your shift kicks off with a safety huddle before you review point-to-point wiring diagrams and plan your layout. You’ll: • Use hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, torque tools, and calibrating tools to complete precision tasks, • Route and bundle conductors to Powell wiring standards for a clean, serviceable build, • Lay out, install, drill, and tap devices on doors and back pans, • Install nameplates and space heaters as specified, • Install and terminate current transformers (CTs), • Perform continuity checks using buzzers/testers, • Pull, terminate, and dress wiring for MCC, switchgear (SWGR), and harnesses per wiring diagrams, • Perform in-process inspections to verify workmanship and compliance, • High School Diploma or GED preferred, • Ability to read point-to-point wiring diagrams, • Comfortable reading and using a tape measure, • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal), • Safe use of hand and power tools, • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs using proper techniquePreferred qualifications, • Basic computer literacy (an asset), • Familiarity with calibration, • Able to read and interpret spec sheets and master copy drawingsSkills, abilities, and working style, • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn, • Follows guidance from Senior and Lead Assemblers, • Reliably meets commitments and stays focused on goals, • Self-starter who can handle multiple tasks and drive results, • Continuously improves processes and seeks efficiency, • Adaptable to new ideas, technology, methods, and product changes, • Customer-focused mindset—understands today’s customers fuel tomorrow’s growth, • Acts with integrity and makes ethical decisions, • Conscientious, precise, thorough, and dependable, • Collaborates effectively within the team and across departments, • Learns and adheres to manufacturing policies and practices to meet ISO requirementsWorking and environmental conditions, • Safety-sensitive position within a temperature-controlled manufacturing/industrial setting with occasional outdoor tasks, • PPE required at all times (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness as needed); respirators when required, • Work from step ladders, A-frame ladders, extension ladders, and scaffolding as needed, • Perform tasks at heights typically up to 30 feet using appropriate lift equipmentPhysical requirements, • Maintain balance and agility to avoid falls while walking, standing, crouching, and climbing/descending stairs, • Frequent bending at the waist and knees with repetitive reaching/extension of arms and hands, • Prolonged standing and walking (50–300 feet) with only occasional sitting, • Frequent stair climbing throughout the shift, • Frequent work with both arms above shoulder height and with arms fully extended, • Continuous use of upper extremities to apply or exert up to 50 lbs of force, • Frequent, extended use of hand tools such as tin snips, hammers, and power tools (including some vibrating tools)
