This course introduces students to the law and practice of human rights as well as the challenges of enforcing rights in an international environment that has grown increasingly hostile to principles of human dignity and personal freedom. Students review the philosophical foundations of human rights and then examine human rights from two perspectives. First, the legal perspective introduces them to basic principles and rules of international law and the main international organizations and mechanisms designed for promoting and enforcing human rights. The Staff Attorney will provide a range of legal services to ACT members and African immigrant communities in New York City, including petitions for alien relatives, naturalization, adjustment of status and more. This position will report to the Director of Immigration Legal Services and collaborate with other legal and programmatic personnel to advance the Chapter's goals and objectives. Psychosocial teachers work in tandem with the head academic teachers in seminar classes to provide social-emotional and relevant academic (e.g., executive functioning) support to students. Psychosocial teachers also provide social-emotional, self-regulatory, and executive functioning support to students in the milieu of the school day. Psychosocial teachers have the opportunity to receive mentorship and support from the Lower School leadership team, academic head teachers, and the clinical staff.
