(SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change aiming to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership so they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,900 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, working to unite a diverse group of students, families, and the South Bronx community toward positive goals. SBU is driven to accomplish our mission and promote the SBU Values of Showing Commitment, Bringing Integrity, and Uniting our Community in all that we do. SCOPE South Bronx United seeks a dynamic and engaging educator to join our team as the full-time Middle School Program Manager or Coordinator. This person will serve as a key staff member of the SBU Academy, a comprehensive and longitudinal program serving more than 200 youth annually, grades 5-12. The Academy program is guided by SBU’s Student-Athlete Pathway, a cohesive program design that outlines scaffolded, target outcomes for each grade level in academic skills, high school and college preparation, social emotional learning, and competitive soccer. The staff memberr manages all programming and works individually with students in grades 5-8, collaborating with our High School and College Access Program Managers to ensure vertically aligned programming. The core responsibilities include curriculum implementation, individual academic advising, training and managing coach mentors and academic mentors, and managing partnerships and events that contribute to a positive student experience. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. This course introduces students to the law and practice of human rights as well as the challenges of enforcing rights in an international environment that has grown increasingly hostile to principles of human dignity and personal freedom. Students review the philosophical foundations of human rights and then examine human rights from two perspectives. First, the legal perspective introduces them to basic principles and rules of international law and the main international organizations and mechanisms designed for promoting and enforcing human rights. Second, they adopt the role of social scientist. We debate evidence on the effectiveness of human rights law and discuss challenges of enforcing rights in an international system in which states are not accountable to a higher authority. Students apply their new knowledge to the problems facing human rights today. Topics may include cultural relativist critiques of human rights as a Western, neo-colonialist institution, challenges from new technologies in state surveillance and autonomous weapons, and existential threats to human populations through climate change and environmental damage. EFFC recognizes that all children in care have experienced some level of trauma, that their needs may change over time, and that their strengths must be supported so they can reach their full potential. POSITION SUMMARY: A Socio-Therapist works with children and youth who need a higher level of care than regular foster home due to the child’s particular needs. The Socio-Therapist provides additional supports to the foster parents and family and works in conjunction with a caseworker to help ensure that every child is making progress towards permanency. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelors in social work or related field, • 1 year of related work experience in serving children and/or families, • Knowledge of and/or training in child development stages, • Knowledge of and/or training in family dynamics, • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, • Ability to engage with clients, • A valid driver’s license is strongly preferred, • Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s Mission, core values, Sanctuary Commitments and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB).
