ORGANIZATION HISTORY AND MISSION The MinKwon Center for Community Action is a dynamic, mission-driven, and people-powered nonprofit organization that serves, educates, and organizes the Korean American, Asian Pacific American (APA), and immigrant communities in New York and around the country. The MinKwon Center offers free assistance with public benefits, health insurance enrollment, and taxes; provides free legal representation for immigration and housing, promotes civic participation with voter and census registration and outreach, and organizes campaigns with other local, state, and federal coalitions. By prioritizing the needs and voices of low-income, undocumented, youth, senior, and limited English proficient residents, we are building a multilingual, multi-generational base of engaged community members to achieve social and economic justice for all. JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to serve as an Immigration Staff Attorney. MinKwon’s Social and Legal Services Program provides direct services to over 2,500 low-income households annually. This position is housed in our Immigration Legal Services program and requires a J.D. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: • Conduct comprehensive immigration screenings, intakes, and case assessments., • Provide information about eligible immigration benefits, assist clients with gathering documents, and complete immigration applications & petitions., • Provide direct representation and legal advice to clients in cases including but not limited to naturalizations, green card renewals, adjustment of status, SIJS, VAWA, TPS, U and T visas, cancellation of removal, family based petitions, DACA renewals, and inadmissibility waivers., • Process immigration-related correspondence and manage routine client communications., • Maintain detailed and up-to-date notes in case management system, and in physical and electronic files., • Prepare and conduct community outreach and educational workshops., • Work with MinKwon’s development staff on immigration grants deliverables and reporting., • General administrative and clerical duties. MinKwon Center’s Staff Attorney will provide free legal consultations and direct representation on immigration matters to primarily low-income Asian immigrant communities in New York City. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: • Provide legal counsel and direct representation to clients seeking assistance with affirmative applications, naturalization, and removal proceedings;, • Work with MinKwon organizers to conduct outreach, trainings, and workshops for individuals and community partners on immigration issues;, • Represent MinKwon during district stakeholder meetings with USCIS and in other immigration-related coalition meetings;, • Supervise and oversee volunteers and interns;, • Maintain detailed client records in case management system Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following: • Licensed to practice law in the United States (Preferably in NY due to representing children in family court proceedings), • Interest and experience in working with the Asian American community, • Expertise and experience in immigration law, • English and Chinese and/or Spanish language proficiency is required, • Ability to manage a diverse and high caseload and deadlines efficiently with minimal supervision, • Excellent oral and written communication skills, • Ability to work well both independently and in teams, • Strong commitment to public service; non-profit experience preferred QUALIFICATIONS The minimum required qualifications for this position include the following: • Chinese and/or Spanish fluency is required., • J.D. required., • Ability to work well independently, in teams, and in collaboration with outside organizations., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications., • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and with limited English proficient communities. Temperatures will remain consistent throughout the year. Noise levels will be high in the plant area and moderate in the office area. Work hours will be dependant upon the weekly production and shipping schedules. Work hours may be long when specific projects are due, therefore, some extended schedules will be necessary. 6.0 TASKS AND DUTIES 6.1 Responsible for the proper operation of the machines. 6.2 Responsible for performing the daily machine set up process – clean the machine, complete the set up the machine for the first job. 6.3 Responsible for producing high quality finished products in accordance with the customer’s requirements. 6.4 Responsible for completing the job within the allotted job budget dollars. 6.5 Completes the bead blasting process when necessary. 6.6 Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the machines. Responsibilities: Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Ensure excellent member service; every member, every transaction, every time., • Conduct member interviews to uncover the needs of members to better help improve their overall financial situation., • Process the opening and overall onboarding of new members., • Perform account maintenance, changes, servicing, etc. on existing accounts., • Ensure proper documentation and signatures are obtained for all member interactions to stay in compliance with rules and regulations as well as MCU policy and procedures., • Process loan applications, collecting all necessary documentation and adhering to underwriting requirements to prepare for loan booking., • Ensure fully complete loan applications for those loans that will be underwritten by centralized underwriting; ensure all data is properly documented the first time for the most efficient experience., • Cross-sell additional products and services to best-fit member need(s)., • Effectively manage new account and loan pipeline with proper follow-up for members in order to close effectively and efficiently., • Meet / exceed sales goals for all key metrics of branch growth including but not exclusively new members, new checking accounts, and new loan bookings., • Demonstrate professionalism and empathy during member interactions., • Assist branch team members in driving referrals for new accounts and loans., • May perform outbound calls including service lists, lead lists, referral follow-up, etc. in order to meet / exceed sales and service goals., • May be assigned online loan applications to complete; follow up with the members and ensure an effective and efficient closing., • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of MCU products and services., • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of credit union policies and procedures as well as applicable rules and regulations and how they apply to MCUs environment., • Back up teller line as needed., • Assist in management of lobby member flow to ensure members move through the branch environment in the most efficient and effective manner., • Participate in the opening and closing of the branch, • Adhere to all regulatory compliance training inclusive of BSA/AML/OFAC and overall BSA/AML/OFAC compliance, • Assist with community engagement outreach programs, • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion of member’s and their financial information, • Perform other duties as required, • Travel as required, • Perform other duties as requested and special projects as assigned., • Member service skills, • Research and problem-solving skills, • Ability to multi-task; good time management skills Requirements: • Retail banking experience is a plus, • High school diploma or the equivalent required., • Previous branch experience preferred, including sales and service, • Availability to work overtime and Saturdays as required, • Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail., • Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, • Highly ethical., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, • Technologically proficient. Actual base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Employees in this position may also be eligible for an attendance bonus, 401(k) with an 8% employer contribution per pay period, and overtime eligibility.
