Job DescriptionJob Title: Heavy Truck & Bus Body Technician (Combo Body Person) Job Description This role focuses on performing high-quality body, structural, and collision repairs on commercial trucks, buses, and other heavy fleet vehicles. You will handle a wide range of work, from minor cosmetic repairs to major structural reconstruction, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards. The position is ideal for an experienced body technician who is confident working with steel, aluminum, and fiberglass and is comfortable in a busy body shop environment. Responsibilities • Perform body repairs on school buses, transit buses, commercial trucks, and other fleet vehicles., • Repair or replace damaged panels, body components, and structural sections to restore vehicles to proper condition., • Straighten frames and structural components as needed to ensure correct alignment and structural integrity., • Perform metal fabrication and welding on various body and structural components., • Remove and reinstall body components such as doors, windows, panels, bumpers, mirrors, and interior trim., • Prepare vehicles for paint, including sanding, masking, and surface preparation., • Work with fiberglass, aluminum, and steel body components using appropriate repair methods., • Follow proper collision repair procedures to ensure safe and durable repairs., • Ensure all repairs meet applicable safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards., • Use body shop tools and equipment safely and effectively to complete repairs., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the body shop.Essential Skills, • Proven experience with heavy truck or bus body repair., • Strong welding and metal fabrication skills suitable for structural and body work., • Ability to work confidently with steel, aluminum, and fiberglass components., • Knowledge of collision repair procedures and best practices., • Ability to use body shop tools and equipment, including welding and fabrication tools., • Valid driver’s license.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working specifically on school buses, transit buses, and commercial trucks., • Familiarity with DOT safety standards related to vehicle body and structural repairs., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work., • Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair tasks efficiently.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a dedicated body shop environment, working primarily on school buses, transit buses, and commercial trucks. The role follows a Monday through Friday, first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work with standard body shop tools and equipment, including welding and fabrication tools, in a hands-on setting that involves standing, bending, and handling various metal and composite materials. The shop emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and safe work practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ronkonkoma, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
