The Role: As a Payroll Manager, you will oversee and process payroll for multiple client companies ranging in size from approximately 30 to 500 employees. You will be responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services while providing a high level of client support. In this role, you will act as a trusted payroll expert, bringing deep knowledge of payroll operations, tax compliance, and payroll systems to support both clients and internal partners. Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Delivery • Manage full‑cycle payroll for assigned client companies on weekly, bi-weekly, semi‑monthly, or monthly cycles., • Review and validate employee wage data, timesheets, PTO accruals, bonuses, and commissions., • Ensure accuracy of employee classifications, rates, deductions, and tax configurations., • Process off-cycle payrolls, adjustments, retroactive pay, and corrections as needed. Client Relationship Management • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll questions, issue resolution, and compliance guidance., • Provide proactive communication to clients regarding deadlines, regulatory changes, and best practices., • Support new client onboarding, including payroll setup, data migration, and system configuration. Compliance & Tax • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations., • Ensure timely and accurate filing of payroll taxes, wage garnishments, and year-end forms (W-2, 1099, etc.)., • Coordinate with internal tax or compliance teams to resolve notices, amendments, or audits. Systems & Process Improvement • Utilize and optimize payroll software platforms to enhance efficiency and accuracy., • Identify and implement process improvements in workflow, reporting, and client experience., • Maintain data security, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant laws (e.g., FLSA, ACA, multi‑state tax rules). Reporting & Analytics • Prepare payroll reports, labor cost summaries, and audit documentation for clients., • Assist with annual workers’ compensation audits, 401(k) census reports, and other compliance requirements. Qualifications • 3–7+ years of payroll experience; multi-client or PEO/ASO experience strongly preferred., • Strong knowledge of federal and multi‑state payroll laws and regulations., • Experience with major payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Paychex, UKG, or similar)., • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy., • Strong client service, communication, and problem‑solving skills., • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC designation preferred.
