Job DescriptionSalary: $21.00-$23.00 CAREER DETAILS: CAREER TITLE: Food Services Coordinator LOCATION: AYW Headquarters, Austin, TX PROGRAM: YouthBuild Austin DEPARTMENT: Participant Services POSITION REPORTS TO: Participant Services Manager POSITION SUPERVISES: No direct supervisory responsibilities, but serves as a coach and mentor for program members CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt POSITION PURPOSE: The Food Services Coordinator helps run the AYW Food Program by providing nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment. This role oversees meal planning, preparation, inventory management, and kitchen cleanliness while maintaining compliance with food safety standards. By supporting daily food service operations, the coordinator contributes to AYWs commitment to health, well-being, and program sustainability. During the summer, this position also assists the facilities team with basic maintenance and participates in professional development to enhance skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and basic tasks.Under direct supervision fromParticipant Services Manager, the Food Services Coordinator will perform the following functions: • Prepare the kitchen and cafeteria for daily service, ensuring smooth and efficient operations., • Design healthy, cost-effective menus to provide nutritious meals for program participants., • Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to planned menus, and serve meals to program participants, staff, volunteers, and tenants in a timely and professional manner., • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including floors, tables, utensils, equipment, and working surfaces. Properly dispose of trash in designated containers., • Manage inventory, order and pick up food and supplies, and inspect the quality and quantity of received order., • Ensure all cafeteria operations comply with sanitation and health regulations while providing meals that meet nutritional standards., • Monitor food temperatures and follow established procedures for setting up and serving hot and cold food lines, ensuring proper use of utensils., • Report any issues or concerns to the Participant Services Manager in a timely manner., • Maintain detailed records for meal plans, costs, and participant sign-ins for breakfast and lunch, including staff, volunteers, and tenants., • Address and resolve any complaints related to inspections or food quality., • Taking direction from the Facilities Managers, maintain a clean and organized cafeteria and kitchen area., • Actively attend and participate in scheduled team & program meetings., • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support AYW. QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: Food manager certification Minimum Required EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma or GED; Food handlers certification EXPERIENCE: One-year experience preparing food in a commercial and, or school setting with significant customer interaction. Two years of previous related experience working with academically and socially at-risk opportunity youth, young adults with criminal records, and a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural and spiritual practices. Related experience in jobs training, youth development, working with contracts, reporting measurements, compliance, member coordination and, or working as a YouthBuild/AmeriCorps model KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE: Customer and Personal Service, knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
