The Commercial Management Director is responsible for leadership, strategy and delivery of key initiatives that drive the advancement of HDR’s Commercial Management Business Class. The objective of the Commercial Management Business Class is to foster a community of practice that connects and elevates Commercial Management professionals across HDR’s six business groups (Architecture, Building Engineering Services, Federal, Resources, Transportation and Water) and positions HDR as an industry leader that is recognized by our clients for exceptional project execution. • Elevate the technical practice and its people., • Align with market sectors and operational areas., • Build and maintain a company-wide community of practice., • Champion the matrix organization., • Provide subject-matter expertise to the Commercial Management practice to foster an industry-recognized reputation for professional excellence., • Collaborate across the organization to elevate the reputation of the Commercial Management practice., • Produce, improve and implement standard processes and procedures to improve Commercial Management elements to enhance project performance., • Support the business group market sectors and Commercial Management business class leads across the company in identifying, attracting, hiring and retaining a coordinated talent pool with the technical profile necessary to successfully serve our client base (internally and externally). Work with the market sectors to right-size the practice to allow for commercial success., • Lead technical development of Commercial Management professionals that drives exceptional project delivery and commercial success., • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical practices, standards and expectations to drive exceptional project delivery, minimize project losses and improve HDR project success., • Act as “boundary spanner and information broker” to appropriately pair expertise and resources with projects during the pursuit and execution phases., • Lead work-sharing communications that result in technical excellence and enhanced utilisation both at the local level and nationally., • Evaluate and leverage technology solutions to elevate the Commercial Management practice and best serve the needs of our internal and external clients., • Actively drive open communication of current/projected production needs; and collaborate with Geographical Operations Leadership to influence staffing and expertise levels., • Provide hands‑on mentoring and team participation to support Commercial Managers within the business class., • Mentor Commercial Management staff in nuances of different market sectors., • Foresee emerging drivers and influence Commercial Management professionals to prepare to improve project performance., • Champion a quality culture to all personnel within the Commercial Management practice and associated Geographical Operations units., • Advocate for professional development of staff and development of production tools: best practices, policies and procedures, papers and presentations, Professional Associates credentialing, recognition of technical achievement, practice group activities, and automation tools., • Act as a role model of our values and code of conduct, as well as professional/ethical/business standards expected by specific clients and required by licensing/credentialing entities., • Champion our culture: Client Service, Teamwork, Entrepreneurial Attitude, and “Do the Right Thing” Integrity., • Perform other duties as needed., • Maintains professional or Engineering registration., • Commercial Management experience within the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry., • Commercial Management experience on large, complex AEC projects, particularly those delivered via alternative delivery methods (design‑build, construction manager / general contractor, public‑private partnership, etc.), • Working knowledge of Project Management Information System software such as QuickBase and application to projects for commercial management purposes., • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Sciences, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field., • A minimum of 15 years' experience in related management role., • Experience in management and development of diverse teams., • Works cooperatively with company, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on Cross Sector efforts., • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values., • In‑depth understanding of HDR vision, mission and values., • Must be a professional and ethical role model., • Must strive to implement delivery of business group service area expertise and high‑quality products to help further HDR's long‑term goals. The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. Range: $181,580–$259,400.
