Certified Recreational Therapist Responsibilities Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Certified Recreational Therapist. This candidate will provide therapeutic recreation services to the patients, including provision of direct therapy and evaluative activities as well as coordination of hospital-wide activities. Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. We have served the Austin community for over 60 years and are proud of our history and tenured leadership team. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neurobehavioral residential treatment services for children and adolescents. Qualifications Skills Knowledge and Abilities: Practical knowledge of therapeutic recreation techniques and interventions, leisure skill assessment. Demonstrate skill in teaching and training patients in the skills needed for more independent placement. Ability to document clearly and concisely. Communication skills necessary to communicate patient status to team members, family members, and agencies. Able to evaluate staff against the criteria in their job description. Education: Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Licensure/Certification: Current Driver's License or State issued ID. Maintains certification with NCTRC as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist / Assistant, and with CTRAC as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist / Texas Certified. Experience: Minimum of two years' experience in therapeutic recreation in a psychiatric or rehabilitation setting. Experience in evaluating staff against the criteria in their job description preferred. Physical/General Requirements: Able to lift 50 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be physically fit to demonstrate and conduct recreation activities for the patients. Able to communicate in writing and verbally. Ability to verbally communicate and confront a dangerous and aggressive patient. Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per TNC policy. Ability to traverse hospital grounds. Sufficient vision so as to effectively communicate patient progress verbally and in writing to TNC team members. Ability to write legibly and grammatically so as to convey patient behavior and progress (in the medical record). Ability to read the record and other reports. Ability to hear so as to effectively protect self and others from dangerous situations and to effectively communicate with patients and staff. Regular and expected attendance. Emotional stability sufficient to deal with changing priorities and stressful situations.
