Job Summary The Operator will be a key member of the Companys Operations team, reporting directly to the Operations and Maintenance Manager. The group operates under a flat structure, and the successful candidate will have regular visibility and direct access to the Director of Operations. The successful candidate will be a critical member of the team, ensuring the successful execution of providing our customers with steam and chilled water on a 24/7/365 basis. Operators work 12-hour shifts alternating every two weeks between days and nights and include weekends. The successful candidate will be expected to work well as part of a team, be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, have strong commitment to deadlines and team, is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a superior knowledge of steam and chilled water systems. Core Responsibilities • The Operator will perform all duties as assigned - Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment of a steam and chiller plant and the distribution systems, • Works with management and peers to Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime, • Maintains proper documentation, including operating logs, maintenance records and safety & environmental reports, • Keeps Manager, control room and other operators and peers are fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift and transitioning shift., • Commitment to following all applicable company and client policies, procedures and work rules, and modeling appropriate actions and behaviors, • Participates in training on operating policies and procedures, • Performs chemical tests on boilers, condensate and cooling water and adjust to designated test levels, • Regenerate softeners, • Work in confined spaces, such as boilers, vaults and work from ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, etc., • Transferring chemicals into storage tanks, • Monitors the plant control system via computer screens and equipment gauges, • Perform continuous improvements on the appearance of the plant facility including snow removal as needed., • Additional duties include, but are not necessarily limited to starting and stopping plant equipment as needed; diagnosing and correcting problems in equipment and auxiliaries; changing oil, lubricating bearings and filling station logs, receiving deliveries Working Style to Be Successful in This Role: • Highly analytical with a keen attention to detail, • Demonstrates exceptional initiative and execution skills, • Strong oral and written communication abilities, • Collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills, • Capable of developing and maintaining positive relationships internally and externally, • Adapts quickly in a dynamic, complex, and fast-paced environment, managing changing priorities effectively, • Delivers high-quality work with speed and accuracy, • Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently with minimal supervision Professional Experience & Knowledge: • Undergraduate degree with relevant technical discipline with 1 year of experience in operating and/or maintaining of combined or simple cycle power plant or other heavy industrial energy plant or High School Diploma with 3 years plant experience, • Individuals having served in the United States Navy for a period of 4 (four) or more years as a boiler technician, machinist's mates, or engineering lab technicians will be considered eligible by the company for a Shift Operator position., • Knowledge of the purpose and function of electronic and pneumatic control panels, and ability to read and interpret charts, tables, measuring equipment, and gauges are required, • Highly analytical with great attention to detail, • Collaborative and interpersonal skills, • A process-focused individual with a passion to drive and deliver effective change, • Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to both managing workload and professional development, • Ability to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities Physical Requirements: • Must be able to work in tight spaces and elevated positions: twisting, turning, bending, and holding arms at / above the head are all common movements; able to lift up to 50lbs., • Requires sitting at computer screens for long periods of time, • Capable of operating heavy equipment such as a forklift and variety of hand and power tools, • Must be able to clearly see and differentiate all colors, • Must be able to maintain standard threshold of hearing to safely perform job duties, • Must have good eyesight, hearing and manual dexterity, • Wear all types of PPE including hearing protection, eye protection, all types of hand protection, steel toe foot wear, head protection, wear fall-protection, half-face and full-face respirators Conditions of Employment: • Valid New York State Drivers License, • Only authorized employees are permitted to use company vehicles, this includes Industrial trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.) and electric vehicles/golf carts. To be an authorized employee, you must be at least 21 years old, hold a current valid State Drivers' license and demonstrate a clean driving record. The driver must be on an approved list for company insurance purposes.
