Job Description SUMMARY: To assist the Project Engineering team in their daily work and to complete special assignments. The Project Engineer (PE) job has responsibility for system design and technical definition (including reviewing drawings and creating engineering orders), customer requirements flow-down and management, technical project team leadership, creation of qualification/certification deliverables, development and qualification test conceptualization and execution, and providing technical oversight and guidance to all internal functions. Must work well in a team environment. This role is a preparatory role for company future hires in Project Engineering for a competitive advantage. This position reports to the Director of Product Engineering with dotted-line supervision by one or more Project Engineers. What is the MISSION for this person? This person is to help the PE team accomplish projects focused on developing new products, technically supporting existing products, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and the company as a whole. To support in the following areas: • Technical support of development programs, • Project leadership and management, • Testing and production support, • Technical report generation, • Process improvement, automation, and standardization, • Job knowledge and ability to learn, • Work quality/dependability, • Attendance and Punctuality, • Initiative Working with all groups within the company to complete tasks as required. Groups include, but are not limited to: Program Management, Design Engineering, Drafting, Test Lab, Operations, Quality Engineering, Purchasing, Contracts, and Shipping/Receiving. Qualifications Desired background (education, years and type of experience, skills and knowledge, etc.) • A student working toward, or recently graduated with, a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics. Other technical degrees may be considered., • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)., • Can demonstrate ability to face unfamiliar problems by application of first principles of engineering and physics., • Can demonstrate leadership and technical competence, backed by examples of actual execution., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex projects into actionable and measurable tasks., • A motivated self-driver., • Can get along with and function in a team with a variety of personalities, backgrounds, skill sets and skill levels. The intern position can lead to becoming a Project Engineer, or can lead to other technical positions within the organization, depending on need and aptitude. At any given time, approximately 25% of the Engineering and Programs department employees were at one time interns with the company. Historically, approximately 50% of interns have been offered positions based on intern performance and job availability. What are the company expectations of an intern? • Works hourly. Maximum 29 hours per week. Schedule is flexible to account for coursework; to be agreed upon with direct supervisor., • Must work physically on site, typically in a cubicle environment., • In addition to various daily duties will perform at least one primary project during the term of employment, which will be reported on and presented in a team review environment.
