Job Summary and Qualifications The Academic Practice Faculty member serves a dual role, integrating academic responsibilities with active clinical practice. This position bridges the gap between nursing education and real-world healthcare delivery, ensuring that academic instruction is grounded in current clinical practices. The faculty member will engage in teaching, curriculum development, clinical supervision, and direct patient care, while fostering strong academic-practice partnerships. Nursing faculty are responsible for engaging in the full scope of the academic nurse educator role. These responsibilities include facilitating learning and learner development; using assessment and evaluation strategies; participating in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; evaluating program outcomes; ongoing development of the nurse educator role; and functioning within the educational environment. This role must be fulfilled in accordance with rules and regulations of the state and federal regulatory and accrediting bodies. What qualifications you will need: Minimum 2 years recent clinical care experience. • Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred, • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation. Major Responsibilities: • Academic Responsibilities (50%): * Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. * Develop, revise, and evaluate curriculum to align with current clinical standards and evidence-based practice. * Advise and mentor nursing students, supporting academic and professional development. * Participate in faculty meetings, committee service, accreditation processes, and scholarly activities. * Contribute to the development of educational strategies that integrate clinical innovations into the curriculum. Practice Responsibilities (50%): Maintain active clinical practice in collaboration with a partnering healthcare organization. Serve as a clinical role model, demonstrating excellence in patient care, interprofessional collaboration, and leadership. Identify practice-based problems and support the integration of evidence-based solutions. Facilitate student clinical placements and supervise learning experiences at the practice site. Contribute to quality improvement and practice innovation within the healthcare setting. Effectively facilitates learning and learner development. • Uses assessment and evaluation strategies., • Participates in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation., • Participates in evaluation of the program outcomes., • Continuously develops in the academic educator role., • Engages in scholarship., • Functions as change agent and leader., • Functions within the educational environment., • Creates an environment that facilitates students’ learning and achievement of desired student learning and program outcomes., • Implements a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, desired learner outcomes, content, and context., • Uses information technologies and eLearning technology to support the teaching-learning process., • Provides resources to students that help meet their individual learning needs., • Helps students develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill that role., • Serves as a faculty advisor to assist students in short-term program and goal achievement and long-range career planning., • Serves as a role model of professional nursing., • Uses a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in all settings (classroom, lab, or clinical) and all domains (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) of learning., • Provides timely, constructive, and thoughtful written/verbal feedback to students regarding course performance and progress toward the achievement of learning outcomes., • Provides input into the use of teaching strategies and evaluation methods., • Ensures that the curriculum incorporates established professional standards, guidelines, and competencies; and reflects current nursing and healthcare trends, and prepares graduates to function effectively in the healthcare environment., • Designs and implements program assessments that promote continuous quality improvement of all aspects of the program., • Uses teaching strategies based on educational theory and evidence-based practice., • Participates in professional development activities that increase socialization to and effectiveness of the faculty role., • Uses feedback obtained through self, peer, student, and administrative evaluations to increase role effectiveness., • Maintains the professional practice knowledge and expertise in areas of responsibility needed to help students prepare for contemporary nursing practice., • Uses evidence-based research/literature to improve teaching and learning and to design evidence-based teaching and evaluation practices., • Shares nursing and teaching expertise with other faculty and professionals., • Acts as a mentor to new faculty, as assigned., • Develops leadership skills to shape and implement change., • Implements strategies for organizational change., • Demonstrates commitment to the hospital’s mission and values of inspiring and fostering excellence, compassion, accountability, and inclusivity., • Provides input into the selection of learning resources and technology., • Implements policies and procedures of the facility., • Communicates effectively and professionally (verbal, nonverbal, and electronic)., • Projects a professional image in attire, appearance, and behavior in all settings (educational and healthcare)., • Documents students’ attendance into the student information system.
