Nscale is the vertically integrated AI cloud engineered for AI. We own and operate the full stack — energy, data centres, GPU superclusters, orchestration, and AI services — delivering high-performance infrastructure to AI-native companies, enterprises, and governments across Europe and the US. We are deploying GPU capacity at hyperscale, operating some of the densest, most advanced AI infrastructure in the world. At Nscale, our Design & Construction team delivers the data center facilities that make AI at scale possible, purpose-built for the power density, availability, and speed our customers demand. We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you'll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you'll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.About the RoleThe Director, Electrical Engineering – North America is a senior, hands‑on leadership role that owns the electrical basis of design and engineering governance across Nscale's U.S. data center portfolio. You'll define MV/LV distribution architectures, electrical equipment strategy, and controls and monitoring interfaces for facilities purpose-built for high‑density AI deployments. You'll set the electrical standards that let us scale rapidly while delivering high availability, high power density, and flexibility for future hardware generations. You'll also lead electrical technical due diligence on greenfield, brownfield, and colocation opportunities, assessing electrical architecture and power delivery constraints before we commit. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑intensity environment and wants to build both the standards and the team that deliver our North American footprint. What You’ll be DoingTechnical leadership and design ownershipLead concept, schematic, and detailed design reviews for new builds and expansions.Establish and maintain electrical design standards and reference architectures that enable repeatable, rapid deployment across the U.S.Ensure designs meet availability, maintainability, efficiency, and safety targets, and are suited to high-density AI workloads.Provide engineering support through long‑lead equipment (LLE) procurement, submittals, RFIs, field changes, and issue resolution during construction.Lead reviews of short‑circuit and arc flash studies, including study assumptions, protective device coordination intent, equipment ratings, labeling requirements, and remediation actions needed to meet safety and compliance targets.Implement lessons learned from deployments, improve reliability and maintainability, and drive innovation in power distribution and energy efficiency.Vendor, consultant, and team leadershipSelect and manage architectural and engineering consultants through the design process, from schematic design to construction documents.Enforce quality and documentation standards through document issuance reviews.Partner cross‑functionally with construction, commissioning, operations, procurement, and product and platform stakeholders to ensure electrical systems meet business and customer requirements.Build and lead a high‑performing team of engineers, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.Colocation leasing supportLead electrical technical due diligence for potential colocation sites, including utility feeds, redundancy, power density capability, available capacity headroom, operational maturity, and maintenance practices.Review and validate landlord and operator documentation, including basis of design, one‑lines, protective device coordination study summaries, sequences of operation, maintenance records, incident history, and commissioning reports.Define and negotiate electrical lease exhibits and technical schedules, including power capacity commitments, operating envelopes, maintenance windows, response SLAs, change control requirements, and metering and monitoring boundaries.Evaluate fit for high‑density AI workloads, including available MW, expansion pathways, generator and UPS topology, and distribution limitations to the white space.Site acquisition supportSupport early‑stage site screening by defining electrical utility and constructability requirements, including interconnection approach, substation and utility constraints, redundancy targets, equipment yard and room requirements, and expansion capacity.Lead electrical due diligence for greenfield and brownfield acquisitions, including existing infrastructure condition, remaining useful life, maintainability, and upgrade pathways.Assess site constraints and risks that affect electrical design and delivery, including MV routing, substation space, protection and coordination constraints, and space planning for electrical rooms, yards, and equipment setbacks.About YouBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Professional Engineer (PE) license.5+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities, with significant time in data center design.3+ years of engineering leadership experience, whether leading people, large multi‑site programs, or both.Strong understanding of data center electrical systems and reliability concepts, including MV/LV distribution, switchgear and protection, UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS strategy, grounding and bonding, and commissioning practices for mission‑critical electrical infrastructure.Experience working with U.S. engineering firms, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and state and local code variations.Strong presence and decision‑making capability, with high judgment in high‑consequence scenarios.A pragmatic, risk‑based leadership style suited to fast‑paced construction environments.Ability to challenge delivery teams constructively while maintaining strong partnerships.Nice to HaveExperience designing for high‑density AI or HPC deployments, including liquid‑cooled racks and next‑generation GPU power requirements.Owner‑side experience at a hyperscaler, neocloud, or data center developer.Experience with utility interconnection, on‑site substations, or behind‑the‑meter power solutions.Experience negotiating technical terms in colocation or wholesale data center leases.Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Why this role mattersPower is the defining constraint in AI infrastructure, and every Nscale facility in North America depends on getting the electrical design right the first time. As the owner of our electrical basis of design, you'll set the standards that determine how quickly, safely, and reliably we can bring GPU capacity online. Success means repeatable reference designs that compress delivery timelines, sharper diligence on every site and lease we pursue, and an engineering team built to scale with our U.S. footprint. What We Can Offer YouAt Nscale, you'll find a collaborative, supportive, and innovative environment where your contributions spark real impact. We're building something extraordinary, and we want you at the core.Highly competitive package, including base salary and equity, with reviews every 12 months.Join one of the fastest‑growing tech startups: your chance to push boundaries, collaborate with brilliant minds, and make your mark on cutting‑edge AI.Expect a dynamic progression plan tailored to your ambitions.
