A fast-scaling, advanced manufacturing business delivering one of the UK’s most significant industrial projects in electrification and clean technology is seeking a Senior SCADA / Automation Engineer to support the build and ramp-up of its new facility in Bridgwater. The site is being designed around smart factory principles, with a strong focus on automation, digitalisation, and fully integrated control systems. Responsibilities • Lead the full lifecycle of SCADA and automation projects (concept → commissioning → handover), • Design and implement plant-wide SCADA architecture for real-time monitoring, control, and diagnostics, • Develop structured, modular HMI/SCADA systems using platforms such as Ignition, WinCC, AVEVA or FactoryTalk, • Build reusable templates, alarm strategies, dashboards, and data structures, • Integrate PLC systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff, Omron) into unified SCADA environments, • Define and manage automation vendor scope, standards, and delivery, • Integrate building and utilities systems (BMS) into a centralised monitoring platform, • Interface with MES, ERP, and cloud systems using OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet, etc., • Deliver plant-wide dashboards (OEE, energy, predictive maintenance, alarms), • Ensure robust cybersecurity practices aligned to IEC 62443, • Support commissioning activities, including FAT/SAT and site ramp-up, • Lead and coordinate internal engineers and external system integrators Requirements • Degree in Automation, Electrical, Controls, or related engineering discipline, • Strong experience in SCADA and PLC system design and delivery within industrial environments, • Hands-on experience with at least one major PLC platform (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff or Omron), • Proven experience developing SCADA systems (e.g. Ignition, WinCC, AVEVA, FactoryTalk), • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP), • Experience integrating plant systems with MES / enterprise platforms, • Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity and control system architecture, • Experience working on large-scale projects, ideally greenfield or factory build environments, • Strong stakeholder management and ability to lead technical delivery Why consider this role? • Opportunity to shape automation architecture for a brand-new, advanced manufacturing facility, • High-impact role within a fast-growing, technology-driven business, • Exposure to cutting-edge digitalisation, smart factory, and Industry 4.0 initiatives, • Strong long-term career growth as the site scales
