Design Manager Location: East Grinstead (Full-time, Office-Based) An established and respected business within the custom build residential sector is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead its in-house design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented design professional with proven leadership experience to play a key role in delivering outstanding residential projects from concept through to manufacture. The Role As Design Manager, you will oversee the full design process for bespoke residential homes and small-scale developments, ensuring projects are delivered accurately, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead a small team of Designers and Technicians, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and internal manufacturing and construction teams to translate client visions into thoughtful, buildable solutions. This is a full-time, office-based position in East Grinstead. Key Responsibilities * Lead and manage a team of Designers and Technicians * Oversee production of drawings from concept and planning through to Building Control and Technical Construction stages * Manage team workload to ensure deadlines are achieved without compromising quality * Collaborate with Project Managers and engage with clients to develop practical, well-considered designs * Coordinate with internal manufacturing and construction departments * Review and approve technical drawings for accuracy and regulatory compliance * Support and mentor team members to encourage professional development * Manage drawing storage, filing, and documentation control processes About You Qualifications & Technical Skills * RIBA qualification or equivalent architectural qualification * Proficiency in AutoCAD * Working knowledge of SketchUp, Enscape and Photoshop Experience * Proven experience managing and leading a design team * Strong portfolio demonstrating creative and technical expertise * In-depth knowledge of UK planning policy and building regulations * Understanding of structural design principles, particularly timber frame construction * Knowledge of CDM regulations and associated responsibilities * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment Desirable * Experience using AI and digital tools within architectural workflows * Knowledge of sustainable design and energy-efficient construction practices
