Teacher (Primary Trained – Secondary Provision) Location: Crowthorne, Berkshire School Type: Independent Special School Contract: 32 weeks per year | Full-time or Part-time considered Age Range: 7–19 years (Secondary focus) About the Role We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Primary-trained Teacher to work with our secondary-aged pupils within our specialist provision in Crowthorne, Berkshire. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to apply a primary teaching approach to support students aged 11–19 with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). You will play a vital role in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons while supporting students’ academic progress, confidence, and personal development within a nurturing and structured environment. Key Duties & Responsibilities • Promote positive student behaviour across lessons and the wider school, ensuring teaching is engaging and purposeful, • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs, • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, educational psychologists, and therapists to support student progress, • Partner with curriculum leaders to maximise engagement and outcomes across the MLD provision, • Monitor strengths and areas for development across classes, contributing to training and development of teaching strategies, • Maintain regular and positive communication with parents/carers, • Evaluate and contribute to schemes of work, ensuring a broad range of learning opportunities and active learning strategies, • Embed formative assessment practices and ensure effective feedback through marking and monitoring, • Work closely with the SEN Department to ensure consistent implementation of successful strategies, • Support the development and delivery of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with the MLD Lead, • Contribute to whole-school improvement, sharing best practice and high-quality teaching resources, • Build strong, positive relationships with students and staff, fostering a calm, purposeful learning environment Person Specification Qualifications & Training • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) Experience • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable Skills & Knowledge • Strong organisational skills and ability to build effective working relationships, • Good subject and curriculum knowledge relevant to the role, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • Ability to remain calm and respond positively to challenges, • Competent ICT skills to support teaching and learning Personal Qualities • Passionate about teaching and learning within a SEND environment, • A committed and enthusiastic team player willing to go above and beyond, • Aligned with a student-centred and nurturing school ethos, • Resilient, positive, and forward-thinking, • Able to inspire, motivate, and challenge students of all abilities What We Offer • A supportive and collaborative working environment, • Opportunities for professional development and career progression, • Flexible working options (full-time or part-time), • The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people If you are a creative and committed teacher looking to make an impact in specialist education, we would love to hear from you
