The role of Specialist Materials Manager is to ensure a consistent and effective approach to materials quality control and expediting activities, such that vendor compliance, inspection, testing, certification and material release requirements are achieved in accordance with project and company requirements. The Specialist Materials Manager shall report to the QC, Materials & Expediting Manager (Line Manager) and shall work in close liaison with the Specialist Materials Team to support the effective execution of materials quality and expediting activities. A day in the life of a Murphy Specialist Materials Manager Provide quality control and expediting oversight of specialist materials supplied by vendors and subcontractors. Work in close coordination with the Specialist Materials Team to ensure materials quality and expediting activities are executed in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements. Review and verify vendor documentation, including material certificates, inspection and test plans (ITPs), test records, and manufacturing dossiers, to confirm compliance with specified requirements. Ensure required inspections, tests and quality checks are completed and witnessed as specified prior to material release. Verify that materials are released only when all contractual, technical and quality requirements have been satisfied. Identify and escalate materials quality issues, non‑conformances or deviations for resolution through the appropriate quality processes. Maintain accurate and controlled records of materials quality documentation, inspection status and release certification. Support procurement activities managed by others by ensuring all required quality and verification checks remain in place prior to acceptance and release. Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with approved Material Procedures, applicable Codes and Standards, Statutory Regulations, Environmental Legislation and Company Procedures Manage and control materials quality documentation, vendor expediting activities and inspection status reporting in support of project delivery. The role includes supporting inspections at vendor premises in the UK and overseas; travel will be required in line with project needs. Ensure that all required quality checks, inspections and verifications are in place to support procurement activities managed by others, in accordance with approved Material Procedures, applicable Codes and Standards, Statutory Regulations, Environmental Legislation and Company Procedures. The Specialist Materials Manager will have proven experience in materials quality control and expediting within the oil & gas or similarly regulated engineering sectors. Experience with oil & gas materials is essential, including inspection, testing, certification, documentation review and material release. Previous experience working with gas network operators such as National Gas Transmission (NGT) or Cadent is advantageous but not essential. The role requires experience with EN 1090 structural steel materials and fabrications, including their application within oil & gas facilities such as control rooms, Local equipment rooms & platforms etc. Knowledge of fabrication processes, galvanising and associated inspection and certification requirements is required. Candidates must be able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, ITPs and vendor documentation, and have experience coordinating inspections, FATs, expediting activities and managing non‑conformances through established quality processes. A good working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, statutory regulations and quality procedures is essential
