Engineering Geologist Location: Reading, UK Salary: £28,000 - £38,000 (depending on experience) Overview An established ground investigation and geotechnical consultancy is seeking an Engineering Geologist to join its Reading office. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of site investigation projects across the South East, supporting infrastructure, residential, and commercial developments. You will be responsible for the supervision of site investigations, factual reporting, and providing ground-related technical input to projects. Key Responsibilities Supervising ground investigations, including trial pitting, window sampling, and borehole drilling Logging soil and rock in accordance with BS 5930 and Eurocode 7 Coordinating and managing site works, including subcontractors and drill crews Undertaking in-situ testing (e.g. SPTs, CBR testing, plate load tests where required) Collecting and managing soil and groundwater samples for laboratory testing Processing and interpreting ground investigation data Preparing factual and interpretative reports Assisting with geotechnical risk assessments and preliminary design recommendations Ensuring health & safety compliance on site (RAMS, site briefings, etc.) Requirements Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline 1-4 years' experience within ground investigation or geotechnical consultancy Strong understanding of UK ground investigation practices and standards Experience with logging to BS 5930 Full UK driving licence Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Strong report writing and data handling skills Desirable Experience with geotechnical software (e.g. HoleBASE, gINT) Knowledge of contaminated land assessment Working towards professional accreditation (e.g. Geological Society or ICE) Benefits Competitive salary and overtime opportunities Company vehicle or car allowance Pension scheme Ongoing training and support towards chartership Exposure to varied and technically challenging projects
