An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join a renowned company known for its pioneering research and development in sustainable materials. As a Research Assistant, you will be supporting laboratory research through device fabrication, experimental testing and analysis of scientific data. This is a temporary contract-based role offering a salary range of circa £34,000 and benefits. You do not need to come from a biology or life sciences background; you need to come from a physical science background such as physics, chemistry, or materials science. You will be responsible for * Assisting scientists with the design, setup and evaluation of experimental techniques and laboratory equipment. * Conducting experimental procedures including formulation preparation, material coating and device characterisation. * Recording fabrication processes and experimental outcomes accurately within internal databases. * Supporting the analysis and interpretation of experimental data to ensure reliable research findings. * Contributing to technical discussions, project meetings and idea generation for research studies. * Preparing written summaries and presenting findings relating to research progress and outcomes. * Reviewing relevant scientific literature to remain informed on developments within the field. * Evaluating existing laboratory methods and suggesting improvements to fabrication processes and testing protocols. * Ensuring laboratory activities comply with internal safety procedures, including risk assessments and COSHH requirements. What we are looking for * Previously worked as a Research Assistant, Laboratory Researcher, Laboratory assistant, Research Associate, R&D Assistant, Lab Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Researcher or in a similar role. * Degree in a physical science or closely related discipline. * Experience supporting experimental research projects within a scientific laboratory, industrial environment or academic institution. * Ability to conduct experimental work and interpret results to reach clear, evidence-based conclusions. * Strong understanding of scientific principles and their application in experimental design and analysis. * Experience managing workloads and contributing to several research activities simultaneously. * Good written skills for producing concise research summaries and technical documentation. * Awareness of safe laboratory practices and compliance procedures. Role: Electronics Test Support technician Location: Huntingdon Onsite role: 39 hrs a week Salary: competitive Job Purpose To provide test technical support to customers, their products, operations test function, and team members, enabling a complete value-added service to the company. Requirements The Engineer role in Test Support (TS) will be self-motivated, able to read and interpret customers’ test requirements, develop, recommend and implement DFT and test solutions for the Company, customers and supply partners. The role involves working with customers, developing test plans and Design for Test solutions. This will involve researching new technologies, methods, procedures and processes adding value, reduce cost and improves overall effectiveness of the test function, both on site and visiting customer locations. Formal qualifications are preferred but not required for this position, however previous experience in a similar role is essential. Key responsibilities: 1. Ability to read and interpret customers’ test specifications and schematics., 2. The ability to propose DFT test plans that delivers the most effective solution for the product., 3. Be a technical point of contact with customers design and technical teams, discussing testing requirements, solutions, product design, performance, yields and improvements. Be comfortable interfacing with customers on technical product and equipment matters. 4. Working independently or part of a team, investigate new, alternative and complementary testing methods (eg Boundary Scan, JTAG) improving coverage, screening, failure analysis and diagnosis., 5. Investigate how to improve test capability and yields, fault investigation, PCB diagnosis, fault finding, feedback and repair cycles., 6. Continuous Improvement, with Quality, Engineering and Production teams investigate defects discovered in Test to be analysed and investigated to find the root cause, feeding back analysis to relevant area of design / operations., 7. Support Operations Test team on equipment specification, operation, product and diagnosis where required., 8. Respond flexibly on reasonable requests utilising and applying competence, knowledge, skills and experience on related tasks and projects, 9. Work within legislative regulations and company rules and policies at all times. Person Characteristics and Skills: 1. Essential: HND / HNC level education or equivalent, with extensive range of relevant experience. Preferred: Degree or equivalent academic qualifications. 2. Essential: experience working in an electronic PCB / component testing environment with knowledge of electronic hardware., 3. Essential: Analytical with high level of attention to detail., 4. Essential: Use of lab software engineering packages e.g. labview, gerber view. Preferred: competent user of developer software tools Python, Embedded C etc… 5.
