Roles & Responsibilities As a Sports Coach in this unique, outdoor-based Alternative Provision (AP), you will use physical education, teamwork, and outdoor activities as a vehicle for emotional regulation and personal growth. You will: • Deliver engaging, inclusive sports, fitness, and cooperative games tailored for the outdoor environment and adaptive to various weather conditions., • Integrate outdoor adventure learning (such as orienteering, team-building challenges, and woodland trails) into your physical education sessions., • Use sports and physical movement to help pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs channel energy, build self-esteem, and learn self-regulation., • Work alongside the provision's therapeutic farm and domestic animals, utilizing animal care and outdoor movement to support holistic learner well-being., • Maintain a safe environment in open, outdoor spaces. Identify behavioral triggers early and use positive handling and de-escalation techniques when required., • Modify sports and physical sessions on the spot to ensure pupils with complex SEND can participate fully and successfully. What you need: To excel in this specialized sports coaching role within an alternative provision, you must possess the following qualifications and experience: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent specialization in Physical Education (PE), OR a minimum of a Level 2 Sports Coaching qualification alongside relevant school-based experience., • 1–2 years of experience coaching or teaching physical activities to children and young people with SEMH needs or complex SEND., • Proven experience or a strong willingness to work entirely in outdoor environments and a high level of comfort interacting with therapeutic farm and domestic animals., • Evidence of training in recognized positive behavior management or de-escalation frameworks (e.g., Team Teach, PRICE, or MAPA) is highly desirable., • Right to work in the UK., • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one)., • Excellent communication skills, high resilience, and the physical stamina required for full-time outdoor sports coaching.
