The Vacancy Quantity Surveyor Location: Chester or Preston (with occasional travel to client sites) Salary: Competitive Contract Type: Full-Time Permanent The Vacancy Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Water and Utilities team based in Chester or Preston. As part of the project team and working under the direction of a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for delivering Quantity Surveying functions on allocated contracts from tender through to final account. You’ll ensure compliance with Binnies’ Business Management Systems to deliver maximum quality of service, value, and profitability across our projects. Key Responsibilities Pre-Contract • Understand and interpret the obligations, responsibilities, and liabilities of all contracting parties., • Be aware of contract estimates, including settlement adjustments. Main Contract Administration • Produce required notices and contractual correspondence., • Support the pursuit of all valid variations, claims, and entitlements through to final account settlement. Procurement • Support the implementation of project procurement plans aligned with agreed delivery strategies and timescales., • Assist in subcontract procurement, including issuing tenders, bid assessments, negotiations, and preparation of subcontract documents. Subcontract Administration • Support the management of subcontract work packages including documentation, negotiation, and assessment of variations., • Assist in resolving non-complex commercial, contractual, and construction issues. Commercial Reporting • Support the preparation of internal valuations (CVRs), forecasts, and cashflow projections to agreed deadlines., • Maintain an understanding of commercial procedures and reporting systems. Risk & Cash Management • Contribute to identifying, reporting, and mitigating project risks., • Support the preparation of payment applications to maximise contractual entitlements. Other • Uphold Binnies’ reputation in all dealings with clients, suppliers, and the public., • Support safe working practices and corrective action plans where required., • Maintain knowledge of contractual, commercial, procurement, and financial matters. About You Education & Qualifications • Working towards a Degree/Qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, or equivalent experience., • Working towards professional accreditation (RICS / CICES or equivalent) – Desirable., • Full UK Driving Licence. Experience • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a Quantity Surveying role., • Experience within the water or utilities sector is desirable., • Demonstrated ability to manage core QS responsibilities independently. Skills & Competencies • Detailed knowledge of contract responsibilities (NEC knowledge desirable)., • Understanding of construction and water/wastewater treatment processes., • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills., • Excellent communication and presentation abilities., • Proficient in MS Office and other software tools., • Ability to work collaboratively within a wider project team and meet deadlines. Work Environment This role offers a hybrid working pattern, with time split between Binnies’ offices in Chester or Preston, home working, and site visits as required.
