Experimental Test Engineer (Electronics / Instrumentation) Bedford | £35,000–£40,000 | Shift-based role This is a hands-on engineering role supporting advanced aerodynamic testing and experimental research. You’ll work in a specialist environment where bespoke instrumentation, precise data capture and reliability matter. The work is practical, varied and rarely repeated - supporting complex test programmes rather than production lines. What you’ll be doing • Building and maintaining bespoke instrumentation and cabling, • Installing sensors and instrumentation into experimental test hardware, • Connecting systems into multi-channel data acquisition setups, • Fault-finding and repairing assemblies and sensors down to component level, • Supporting live test activity and minimising downtime, • Working across lab and industrial environments, including confined spaces and work at height Why this role appeals • Unique experimental work, not repetitive manufacturing, • Strong exposure to specialist test and measurement systems, • Close collaboration with experienced engineers and researchers, • Long-term role in a technically respected engineering organisation, • Full training provided for specialist equipment and processes What will make you a fit • Time-served electronics technician or equivalent hands-on experience, • Solid understanding of basic electronics and diagnostics, • Experience with sensors, instrumentation or test systems (strain, temperature, pressure, etc.), • Comfortable reading schematics and wiring lists, • Flexible approach to shift work, • Eligible for UK Security Clearance Package • £35,000–£40,000 salary, • Shift pattern (early/late rotation), • 26 days holiday + bank holidays, • 7% employer pension contribution, • Private healthcare and life assurance Interested?
