Our engineering and scientific departments require a range of goods-in and despatch logistics services, and we have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics Supervisor to proactively lead the team in delivering a flexible, customer-focused and efficient service in support of STFCs vision and mission. Reporting to the Deputy Facilities Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the management of the Logistics Operatives team, ensuring that daily and weekly logistics activities and duties are completed efficiently. Key accountabilities Supervision and line management of logistics staff, including HR matters, resource planning and staff development. Responsibility and oversight for day-to-day running of the logistics service, including front desk duties, all in-bound goods and their delivery across site. Supporting the despatch of goods, postal services, and site storage through care and custody provision. This includes the supervision of specialist services such as laboratory gas supply, servicing, receiving dangerous goods alongside the day-to-day manual handling activities. Provide deputising support for line manager and close interaction with the Shipping team to ensure effective communication and co-ordination. Management of the logistics fleet. Reviewing or creating logistics services-related risk assessments and safe systems of working to ensure the service is compliant with H&S regulation and STFC safety arrangements. Essential shortlisting criteria You will have supervisory or managerial experience in a logistics role, ideally within a science, engineering sector and a level of education equivalent to five GCSEs (including English and Maths, minimum level 5), or other equivalent qualifications/experience and along with the following desirable attributes: Clean current UK driving licence. An up-to-date counterbalance forklift certificate. Be physically fit and capable to perform all aspects of the role, including manual handling. Dangerous goods and handling. Proven logistics or warehouse experience.
