Design & Development Engineer Cambridge | Contract until end of 2026 | £476.90 per day The Opportunity An exciting contract opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design & Development Engineer to support the development of innovative drug delivery devices across a growing product pipeline. You will play a key role in the design, analysis, and optimisation of high-volume medical devices, working from early prototype through to commercialisation. Key Responsibilities • Perform technical assessments of drug delivery devices, including:, • Tolerance analysis, • Functional and performance modelling, • FEA simulations, • Develop detailed component and system designs using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), • Produce engineering drawings from concept through to production tooling, • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM/DFMA) reviews to ensure efficient production, • Collaborate with suppliers to source and optimise components (e.g. moulded parts), • Contribute to material selection and evaluation for device components, • Ensure compliance with internal Quality Management Systems, • Support investigation and reporting of technical issues, complaints, or adverse events Skills & Experience Required • Proven experience developing high-volume products, ideally within:, • Medical devices, • Drug delivery, • Regulated manufacturing environments, • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), • Solid understanding of core engineering principles:, • Mechanics, • Kinematics, • Thermodynamics, • Materials science, • Experience with tolerance analysis and DFMA principles, • Knowledge of assembly processes and manufacturing techniques, • Familiarity with quality control and risk management in regulated environments, • Strong technical writing and documentation skills Qualifications • Degree, MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
