Job Summary: We are seeking a Part-Time detail-oriented Assistant Estimator / Estimator to join our specialist team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for accurately assessing steel / pipe / structural project costs, preparing general QA and ISO estimates, and supporting project planning from inception to completion (Health and Safety / Reading Drawings) etc. Your expertise will help ensure competitive pricing, effective cost control, and successful project delivery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to specialist projects in a challenging industry sector. You will need to be flexible with part-time working hours, centred around the businesss needs. You could work 2 or 3 full days, or 5 short days Monday to Friday. This role is 100% office based, just outside central Southampton. Hourly Pay Rate: £15 to £16 (depending on experience). Temporary to Permanent Position: Opportunity for progression and additional hours depending on a candidates transferable skills and completion of successful probation period. Duties: Develop comprehensive estimates by analysing project plans, specifications, and bid documents using industry-standard software. Collaborate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather accurate pricing data and negotiate favourable terms. Prepare detailed cost breakdowns covering labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor quotes, and overhead expenses. Manage bid submissions ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines. Monitor project costs throughout the construction process to support cost control initiatives and identify potential overruns early. Assist in contract review and negotiations to ensure alignment with project budgets and scope. Experience: Proven experience as an Estimator with a strong background in steel / pipe / structural management or related fields. Proficiency with general QA / ISO works / H&S / Reading drawings . Demonstrated ability in negotiation with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to achieve optimal pricing and terms. Experience in cost control practices and developing accurate project budgets. Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Must be eligible to work in the UK in a permanent position.
