Job Description Accounting Assistant Visalia, CA $36.84/hour ($6,385/month) Full-Time | Monday–Friday About the Opportunity Key Staffing is partnering with a well-established public sector organization within the housing and community development industry that provides essential housing programs and services to local residents. This organization plays a critical role in supporting affordable housing initiatives, rental assistance programs, and community development efforts. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Assistant to support the Controller and assist with complex accounting functions in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Position Overview Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Assistant will perform a wide range of technical and complex accounting duties, including maintaining financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and supporting various accounting functions across multiple programs and funds. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the daily operations of the accounting department, • Perform duties related to:, • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable, • Payroll processing (backup support), • Tenant contracts and program-related accounting (e.g., rental assistance programs), • Inventory and property control, • Reconcile bank statements and tenant security deposits, • Maintain and update general and special ledgers, • Analyze receipts and disbursements across multiple programs/funds, • Prepare financial reports, operating statements, and balance sheets, • Support budget tracking and financial analysis, • Ensure proper classification and allocation of income and expenses, • Assist with audit preparation and compliance with applicable regulations, • Participate in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures, • Train or support other accounting staff as needed, • Assist with employee benefit enrollments and new hire onboarding processes, • Collaborate with internal departments such as IT and purchasing Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED required, • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred, • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and/or auditing experience, • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and terminology, • Experience working with accounting systems and financial reporting tools, • Ability to analyze financial data and solve problems effectively, • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, • Effective written and verbal communication skills, • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel required), • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professional relationships Physical Requirements • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, • Occasional bending, reaching, and lifting up to 20 lbs, • Clear communication and ability to interact with staff and the public Additional Requirements • Valid California Driver’s License required Why This Opportunity? • Stable, long-term opportunity within a mission-driven organization, • Competitive pay and benefits, • Opportunity to work on meaningful programs that impact the local community, • Room for professional growth and development within accounting Commitment to Diversity: As an equal opportunity employer committed to meeting the needs of a multi-generational and multicultural workforce, Key Staffing recognizes that a diverse staff, reflective of our community, is an integral and welcome part of a successful and ethical business.
