The Sanjana Lab at the New York Genome Center is looking for a motivated individual to work as a Research Assistant within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, engineers, and life science entrepreneurs. Our team works on a diverse array of projects that span genomics, bioengineering, cancer biology and neuroscience. We focus on developing new genome engineering technologies to understand gene regulation, development, tumor biology and genetic drivers of disease. Recent work from the group has included in vivo and RNA-targeting CRISPR screens, pairing CRISPR perturbations with multiomic single-cell readouts, engineering T cell therapies and precise genome editors, and uncovering cis-regulatory elements in the human noncoding genome. We are looking for someone to join our team, work in a collaborative environment, and perform research related to genome editing, immunotherapy and functional genomics. We request that all applicants complete the skills questionnaire here before applying for the position: ___ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Plan, execute and troubleshoot complex biological experiments both independently and in collaboration with colleagues; * Maintain transgenic mouse colonies (breeding, weaning, and genotyping) * Techniques required for development and engraftment of human tumors in animal models, treatment with cell therapies and in vivo genetic screens: IM, IV and IP injection, orthotopic cell transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, in vivo imaging. * Manage small independent projects that include molecular biology, cell culture, mouse work, expression analyses and computational biology. Not all of these skills are required but familiarity with some of them is helpful. * Consult with scientific literature and other scientists as needed to better understand scientific experiments and problems, and propose solutions to emerging problems. * Record and communicate findings accurately and professionally. Position Requirements: * BS in Biology or related field and demonstrated experience in experimental biology. * Previous experience with mouse handling. * Previous experience with mouse colony management. * Familiarity with IRB protocol submissions. * Ability to independently collect and analyze data. About the New York Genome Center The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. The primary responsibility of this role is the characterization and validation of chemical compounds identified from throughput screens ongoing for a group of genetic disorders known as lysosomal storage diseases affecting the central nervous system (e.g. metachromatic leukodystrophy and Krabbe disease). The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will work on examining analogs synthesized from "hits" from two innovative cell-based and biochemical assays, using imaging and tandem mass spectrometry approaches. Individuals in this role are expected to have prior experience with animal handling and understand the importance of prioritizing animal welfare in a research setting. Key responsibilities include performing stereotaxic surgeries, tissue collection, and executing various behavioral assays coupled to histological analysis. The candidate should be comfortable working independently and exhibit excellent time management and record keeping skills. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to bringing a new class of cellular therapies to patients using our unique CELL+GENE platform.
