Job Description We are seeking a highly organized, detail-driven, and solutions-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial accuracy, operational integrity, and scalable growth of Doing Things. As a core member of the Finance team, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the company’s books are clean, reconciled, and compliant, supporting multiple business lines including editorial content, branded partnerships, creator businesses, e-commerce, wholesale, and licensing. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys building processes, and brings both rigor and curiosity to accounting operations. You will partner cross-functionally with Creative, Commerce, Data, Brand Partnerships, Operations, and external vendors to support clean month-end close, AP/AR workflows, and financial reporting that fuels strategic decision making. This is a hands-on accounting role with significant exposure across the entire business — ideal for someone who loves accuracy, ownership, and improving systems. Responsibilities: Month-End & Year-End Close • Play a key role in the completion of month-end and year-end close processes, • Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed, • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules, • Ensure all financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with US GAAPAccounts Payable Management, • Own the AP workflow, including timely vendor communication and bill processing, • Set up new vendors in Bill.com and maintain accurate records, • Obtain and track internal approvals for all incoming invoices, • Oversee corporate credit card transactions and employee reimbursements within our expense management platform, verifying policy compliance and proper expense categorization Accounts Receivable & Billing, • Assist with AR tasks including creating invoices in QuickBooks Online, • Send invoices to clients and maintain follow-up cadence for outstanding payments, • Track payment status and escalate discrepancies or delays when neededFinancial Reporting & Audit Support, • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, • Assist with generating financial statements and ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders, • Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules, pulling documentation, and answering auditor inquiriesCompliance & Vendor Management, • Facilitate the annual issuance and distribution of 1099s to independent contractors, • Maintain proper vendor records and ensure required tax documentation (W-9s, etc.) is up to dateCross-Functional Collaboration, • Partner closely with Creative, Commerce, Data, and Brand Partnerships to ensure financial accuracy across initiatives, • 2+ years of accounting or finance experience; media, entertainment, or consumer products preferred, • Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes, • Hands-on experience with AP, AR, journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals, • Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, Bill.com) and Excel/Google Sheets, • Experience with inventory accounting or COGS is a plus, • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, • Excellent communication and ability to build strong cross-functional relationships, • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a desire to improve processes, • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, • Curiosity for how creative, commerce, and media businesses operate At Doing Things, you make an immediate impact. The base salary for this position at the time of posting will range from $80,000 USD to $100,000 USD. Individual compensation varies based on job related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility, and qualifications.
