Tuuli Lappalainen and Neville Sanjana at the intersection of statistical genetics and functional genomics analyses and tech development and have the opportunity to also be affiliated with New York University. About the labs The Sanjana lab works at the intersection of genomics and bioengineering. We are curious about many things and are passionate about what we do. We primarily develop new technologies for hacking and understanding biological systems. About the position We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist eager to understand the impact of human genetic variation on gene expression and phenotypes at the cellular, tissue and physiological levels. The Genomics AI Program Manager will support a Center-wide Initiative at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) focused on advancing the development and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to genomic interpretation and human disease. The Initiative brings together NYGC faculty, technologists, computational scientists, and external collaborators to develop and apply large-scale AI models that link genomic sequence to cell-type-specific regulation, disease phenotypes, and biological function. The mission of the Genomics AI Initiative is to address key bottlenecks in genomic interpretation by integrating high-throughput sequencing, single-cell and spatial multiomics, perturbation and functional genomics, and modern machine learning approaches. Position Description The Program Manager will provide coordination and operational leadership across the full range of activities undertaken by the Genomics AI Initiative. The Staff Scientist will prepare grant applications and other scientific communication materials on a wide range of genomic research topics. This role is deeply immersed in the science of NYGC and supports our research team in building and expanding a successful, independently-funded research base. They collaborate with diverse teams of students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators, and relates scientific and strategic goals to individual grant opportunities and other research communications vehicles.
