Pay: Competitive weekly pay (inquire for details) Start Date: ASAP About the Position Job Title- Specimen Processing - Pre-Analytical Assistant I Location- Clifton, NJ Duration- 4 Months Shift/Time Zone: 11pm-8AM (night shift) Mon-Fri with rotational Saturday. Job Summary The Pre-Analytical Assistant I provides essential support within the Technical Operations Department by performing a variety of pre-analytical laboratory functions. This role ensures the accurate handling, processing, and delivery of specimens in compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and operational procedures. The position requires attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Perform manual specimen processing functions including sorting, racking, centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and pickup/delivery of specimens to the laboratory. Accurately identify specimen types and verify required quantities based on test orders. Identify and resolve issues related to specimen integrity, missing or incorrect information, and processing errors; escalate issues as needed to ensure timely resolution. Demonstrate understanding of test ordering compliance policies by researching test information using translation tables, computer systems, and directories of services. Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and within established timeframes. Meet quality and production standards within six months of completing training. Maintain punctual attendance and support departmental operations during coworker absences, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required. Learn additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing to support departmental flexibility and career progression. Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with 5S workplace standards. Adhere to all safety, biohazard, compliance, and work process policies in accordance with Quest Diagnostics’ Core Values. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Competencies Basic data entry and computer skills; familiarity with mainframe systems preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Understanding of specimen handling, storage, and delivery requirements. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment in decision-making. Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to customer service and continuous improvement. Flexibility to adapt to changing compliance regulations and operational needs. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work in a high-volume, production-based laboratory environment. Exposure to biohazard materials while complying with all safety protocols. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver large carts or specimen racks. Flexibility with work schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Medical background preferred, including familiarity with medical terminology related to clinical laboratory operations. Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment preferred.
