Job Description Job Description: Temporary IT Migration Technician Position Overview Job Title: IT Migration Technician - Windows 10 to 11 Upgrade Specialist Employment Type: Temporary/Contract Duration: 4-5 weeks (approximately 20-25 business days) Start Date: 10/1/2025 Location: Austin, TX 78738 Reports To: IT Manager/Project Manager Compensation: $26.92- $31.92/per hour Position Summary We seek a skilled and experienced IT Migration Technician to lead our organization's critical Windows 10 to Windows 11 migration project. The successful candidate will be responsible for upgrading 19 workstations from Windows 10 to Windows 11, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations while maintaining data integrity and user productivity. This is a temporary position with the potential for future contract work based on performance. Primary Responsibilities Phase 1: Planning and Preparation (Days 1-4) • Conduct a comprehensive inventory of all 19 computers, documenting hardware specifications, installed applications, and user configurations., • Identify and document special hardware, peripherals, and mission-critical applications., • Set up and configure migration tools (USMT, PCmover, or similar), • Create migration templates and standardized procedures, • Establish network shares and prepare storage media for data transfers, • Perform pilot migration on 1-2 test systems to validate processes, • Communicate the migration schedule to all affected users, • Coordinate with department heads to minimize business disruption, • Create full system backups for all 19 workstations, • Verify backup integrity and test restoration procedures, • Execute Windows 11 migrations for 2-3 computers daily, • Transfer user profiles, data, and application settings, • Install and configure all required applications on new systems, • Restore user data and verify file integrity, • Configure network connections, printers, and peripherals, • Conduct post-migration testing with users, • Troubleshoot and resolve migration issues, • Perform comprehensive system verification and testing, • Provide user training on Windows 11 features and changes, • Create quick reference guides and documentation, • Address user concerns and technical issues, • Archive old system images according to retention policies Education and Certifications • High school diploma or equivalent required, • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred, • CompTIA A+ certification strongly preferred, • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in IT support and system administration, • Proven experience with Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems, • Demonstrated experience performing OS migrations, upgrades, or large-scale deployments, • Proficiency with at least one migration tool (USMT, PCmover, ForensiT, or similar), • Experience with backup and recovery solutions, • Strong understanding of Active Directory and domain environments, • Operating Systems: Expert-level knowledge of Windows 10/11, basic knowledge of Windows Server, • Migration Tools: USMT, PCmover, Robocopy, or similar tools, • Backup Software: Experience with Acronis, Macrium Reflect, or Windows Backup, • Scripting: Basic PowerShell or batch scripting abilities, • Software Deployment: Experience with software installation and configuration, • Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network troubleshooting, • Previous experience with Windows 11 migrations specifically, • Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) or Windows Deployment Services, • Knowledge of Microsoft Intune or similar device management platforms, • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V), • ITIL foundation certification or knowledge of IT service management, • Experience in change management and user training Technical Competencies • Systematic problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, • Ability to follow and create technical procedures, • Excellent customer service and communication skills, • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users, • Professional demeanor and appearance, • Patience and empathy when working with frustrated users, • Strong time management and organizational skills, • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, • Experience managing multiple concurrent tasks, • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM -
