Job Description Pipefitter - Career Opportunity - Immediately Hiring Job Description • The pipefitter installs, maintains, and repairs marine piping systems on vessels, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. This role follows blueprints, layouts, and work orders to fabricate, fit, and test piping systems using hand tools and shop machines, ensuring all installations meet required specifications and standards. Responsibilities • Install and maintain shipboard piping systems such as steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines in accordance with blueprints, layouts, work orders, and applicable specifications., • Plan the layout of pipe sections, taking into account specifications, obstructions, and required openings in bulkheads and decks., • Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks to allow for the proper installation and routing of pipes., • Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats., • Bend pipe to specified shapes using pipe-bending fixtures to achieve precise alignment and fit., • Bolt or weld pipe brackets and supports to secure piping systems throughout the vessel., • Connect pipes to fixtures and equipment such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other shipboard systems., • Repair, pack, and adjust valves to ensure proper operation and system integrity., • Test installed piping systems for leaks and verify that all systems meet required specifications, including air and hydrostatic testing as needed., • Set up work areas with appropriate tools and materials in the shop or on board ship to efficiently complete assigned tasks., • Cut, bend, weld, braze, grind, and burn pipes to fit and connect them for shipboard installation., • Install and remove pipe as required for new construction, modification, or repair projects., • Inspect and tag out piping systems, perform air tests on tanks and voids, and hydrostatically test piping systems and associated equipment., • Read and interpret blueprints and spool sheets to plan, fabricate, repair, install, and test marine piping systems accurately., • Perform other related tasks as assigned that support the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of marine piping systems. Essential Skills • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a pipefitter, preferably in a marine or shipyard environment., • Strong knowledge of basic marine piping systems and their components., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and spool sheets, and follow exact tolerances., • Proficiency in marine pipefitting, including bending, burning, cutting, and fitting pipe., • Hands-on experience with silver brazing procedures and related techniques., • Proficiency in the fabrication, installation, repair, and testing of marine piping systems., • Ability to operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats., • Capability to set up work areas with appropriate tools and materials in the shop or on board ship., • Ability to perform air tests on tanks and voids and hydrostatic tests on piping systems and equipment., • Capacity to work independently while accurately following blueprints and work orders., • Flexibility to work on different shifts, with the ability to support both first and second shift operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with silver brazing in marine applications., • Familiarity with military specifications related to marine piping systems., • Proficient with fitting processes and procedures for shipboard installations., • Ability to inspect, tag out, and verify the integrity of piping systems., • Comfort working with a variety of hand tools, welding and brazing equipment, and pipe-bending fixtures., • Strong attention to detail to ensure systems meet all specifications and testing requirements. The environment involves working around heavy equipment, in and around tanks, voids, bulkheads, and decks, with testing activities such as air and hydrostatic testing. Shift flexibility is important, as work may occur on first or second shift to meet project schedules.Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
