Position Summary The Training Manager leads the development and execution of training across Butterfield. This hands-on role builds strong relationships with department trainers, champions a culture of continuous learning, and delivers a blended training program through Opus, virtual classes, in-person instruction, and on-the-floor coaching. Primary Areas of Ownership • Opus digital learning platform, • Department Training Passports, • In-person and virtual training programs Training Program Leadership • Lead Butterfield’s companywide training strategy and turn operational priorities into clear, practical learning programs., • Build and manage a blended training program that combines LMS (Opus) courses, virtual classes, in- person instruction, and hands-on practice., • Maintain a training calendar and coordinate programs across the markets, commissary kitchen, café, catering, and corporate teams., • Ensure training is engaging, consistent, easy to understand, and connected to Butterfield’s service and operating standards. LMS (Opus) and Digital Learning • Lead the launch, administration, and ongoing oversight of the Opus learning management system., • Create, organize, publish, and update digital courses, SOPs, quizzes, certificates, and training assignments., • Track participation, completion, quiz results, and overdue assignments, and follow up with managers and trainers., • Partner with department leaders and subject-matter experts to keep Opus content accurate, relevant, and useful. Trainer Development and Relationships • Build strong working relationships with department trainers and managers across all Butterfield locations., • Lead train-the-trainer programs that strengthen facilitation, coaching, feedback, and follow-through., • Provide trainers with clear lesson plans, checklists, demonstrations, practice activities, and evaluation tools., • Create an active network of trainers who share best practices, identify needs, and reinforce consistent standards. Hands-On Training and Floor Support • Spend significant time in the markets and kitchen observing work, coaching team members, and supporting trainers., • Create, maintain, and help implement hands-on Training Passports for each department and position., • Observe training in practice, identify gaps between instruction and execution, and work with managers on solutions., • Support onboarding and retraining so team members can confidently and consistently perform Butterfield standards. Cross-Functional Training Leadership The Training Manager works closely with HR, operations, department leaders, and trainers to make learning part of the daily Butterfield experience. • Partner with the HR & Training Director to establish priorities, goals, and measures of success for the training function., • Directly supervise the Training Coordinator and provide clear priorities, coaching, and accountability., • Collaborate with managers and subject-matter experts to document procedures and translate them into effective training., • Ensure training is accessible to Butterfield’s workforce, including English- and Spanish-language content when appropriate., • Serve as the companywide champion of training and reinforce the connection between learning, service, quality, safety, and growth., • Maintain organized training records and support required safety, compliance, and policy training. Measures of Success • Strong adoption and effective use of Opus across departments and locations., • Consistent completion and practical use of department Training Passports., • Confident, capable department trainers who deliver clear and consistent instruction., • Visible improvement in team knowledge, execution, service, safety, and adherence to standards., • Timely reporting of training participation, completion, results, needs, and next steps.Requirements: Education and Work Experience • Minimum 3 years of experience in training, learning and development, operations, hospitality, grocery retail, or a related field., • Previous experience leading trainers, facilitators, or training support team members preferred., • Experience creating hands-on training programs, job aids, SOPs, and train-the-trainer materials., • Strong facilitation, communication, coaching, relationship-building, and organizational skills., • Experience administering an LMS; bilingual English/Spanish capability is strongly preferred. Physical and Scheduling Requirements • Ability to work a flexible schedule as training needs require, including occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays., • Ability and willingness to travel regularly among Butterfield locations and work directly on the floor., • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds., • Ability to work a flexible schedule as training needs require, including occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays., • Ability to use computers, tablets, mobile devices, presentation equipment, and digital learning tools., • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
