The Domestic Violence Program provides legal services to individuals who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. Our legal team assists clients with various issues such as orders of protection; child custody and visitation; child and spouse support; and other commonly encountered legal proceedings in family court. Position Summary: The Paralegal will work closely with staff attorneys to ensure the successful and smooth operation of its legal and administrative functions, including client communication and case support, assisting with the drafting of pleadings and papers; case filing; case intake, including with administrative investigations and complaints; records management for the Program; case/data tracking; and answering phone calls. Job Responsibilities: • With the supervision of an attorney, research cases and legal issues to support client cases, and prepare the appropriate documentation according to established procedures;, • Interview clients and enter cases into the case management system and prepare letters and request documents to prepare clients' cases;, • Communicate legal details to clients in a clear and precise manner in attorney's absence without providing legal consultation or advice;, • Transcribe notes from legal proceedings and meetings on computer from dictation and notation with precise terminology and speed;, • Research, retrieve and update appropriate information in clients' case files in both hard files and case management system;, • Coordinate and confirm deposition schedules with other law firms as well as field incoming inquiries regarding court related details;, • Facilitate the timely delivery of legal documents and attend court and administrative hearings as required;, • Respond to clients in a timely and professional manner that best represents BKA and respect for the client;, • Maintain an updated and accurate master calendar for the team;, • Attend community group meetings and outreach programs and client meetings as necessary. Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President of Bronx Supported Housing is responsible for the oversight of the administrative, operational, staffing, and clinical aspects of the program. THE OPPORTUNITY Brownsville Community Justice Center (also known as the Justice Center) seeks to reengineer how the justice system works in Brownsville, Brooklyn. In particular, the Justice Center is dedicated to building off-ramps for young people who come into contact with the justice system by providing much needed services to young people arrested in Brownsville. The aim is to provide the kind of support that young people need to become law-abiding members of society. The ultimate goal is to reduce crime and the use of incarceration, while at the same time restoring local faith in the justice system. The Brownsville Community Justice Center seeks a Project Director to oversee all existing programming and develop new initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations of Community Development and Crime Prevention, the Project Director will oversee and manage all aspects of the project, including comprehensive collaboration with stakeholders, hiring and training of staff, development of policy, procedures, and program materials, management of contracting and fiscal reporting, and representation of the Center at local and citywide events, meetings, panels, and community forums. The mission of EDI is to ensure access to the holistic resources needed for tenants and their families to prevent eviction and maintain safe, stable, and affordable housing. EDI helps litigants get assistance with arrears and ongoing rental assistance, legal assistance, public benefits, mental health services, employment, financial empowerment, and connections to other community-based organizations. EDI also facilitates collaboration with court administration, judges, and clerks to review data, identify resources, and problem-solve issues as they arise. The EDI project is run by the Center for Justice Innovation in Kings and Suffolk Counties in New York State. Reporting to the Project Manager of Eviction Diversion in the Kings County (Brooklyn) Housing Court, the Navigator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the EDI grant program with Kings County (Brooklyn) Housing Court. The Housing Court Navigator will be responsible for identifying and assisting public housing and housing voucher recipients who are facing eviction as well as other tenants facing eviction or displacement. THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI), the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court along with community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming and receive referrals to services such as job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI is seeking a Supervising Case Manager for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP) to supervise our case management and field engagement staff who are based in the community. Reporting to the Case Management Coordinator, the Supervising Case Manager will be responsible for providing substantive and consistent trauma-informed supervision to Case Managers, Senior Case Managers, and Community Navigators to ensure fidelity to the program model and quality service to participants in the community. Supervising Case Managers ensure that staff complete program-specific training, consistently apply policy, protocol, and best practices in alignment with that training, maintain routine and accurate data entry and court reporting, and collaborate effectively across SRP teams to build on successes and proactively address challenges. This position is also responsible for completing comprehensive and routine case audits in partnership with the compliance team to ensure consistent application of policies, protocols, and best practices. This in-person and on-site position leverages exemplary communication, data management, and supervisory skills to support their staff in the execution of their responsibilities. Policy & Expert Assistance The Center provides hands-on, planning and implementation assistance to a wide range of jurisdictions in areas of reform such as problem-solving courts (e.g., community courts, treatment courts, domestic violence courts), tribal justice, reducing incarceration and the use of fines/fees and reducing crime and violence. Our current expert assistance takes many forms, including help with analyzing data, strategic planning and consultation, policy guidance, and hosting site visits to its operating programs in the New York City area. THE OPPORTUNITY The Finance department is seeking a Staff Accountant. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting transactions and reports. Working closely with internal teams, the Staff Accountant will ensure complete and accurate financial reporting, utilizing attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to develop effective working relationships across the organization. There are two Assistant General Managers assigned to the property, each playing a vital role in managing site-level operations. This position requires strong leadership, familiarity with affordable housing compliance, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional responsibilities including leasing, maintenance, tenant relations, and legal matters.
