The Bilingual Facilitator will teach primarily in the Tactics and Choices class, which facilitates classes for those arrested for Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) charges and who are participating in the Supervised Release Program. Participants are either mandated or encouraged to voluntarily attend this class as part of their supervised release program. The class offers participants an overview of basic principles of power and control dynamics and uses an interactive format to introduce strategies for making healthy choices in intimate relationships. The Bilingual Facilitator will provide this class as part of a larger IPV supervised release track, with the goal of increasing compliance with court mandates and return to court. The Bilingual Facilitator will also train in other IPV and domestic violence groups and classes as the team seeks to expand programming. The Bilingual Facilitator will primarily teach online but will is also required to teach classes in person throughout New York City's five boroughs as the program expands. The class will be offered in several separate groups: Spanish-speaking, male, female, and LGBTQ+ defendants utilizing different curricula. Classes are offered in other languages with an interpreter on an as-needed basis. The work of the IP has uncovered racial (and other) bias in prosecution, policing, indigent defense, and forensic science. To further advance the mission of the IP, the (Special) Advisor on Race and Wrongful Conviction will serve as an advisor, thought leader, expert and in-house resource on racial justice, equity, bias and discrimination and its impact on the functioning of the criminal legal system and, particularly, wrongful conviction. Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Senior Social Worker, Jail Diversion will lead a team that conducts independent clinical assessments and drafts treatment recommendations for defendants being held in pretrial detention. The Senior Social Worker will supervise a team of social workers and counselors and oversee the referral, assessment, and treatment planning process—ensuring adherence to a strict timeline and that the process is completed as quickly as possible. They will also regularly conduct assessments and prepare treatment plans, including for more complex and demanding cases. Additionally, in coordination with the Clinical Director, the Senior Social Worker will design and refine workflows for the team, and oversee data entry. The goal is to provide information that will enable defense attorneys, prosecutors, and judges to resolve cases as quickly as possible, significantly reducing the time people spend in pretrial detention. Operating out of Richmond County Criminal Court along with community-based offices, SIJC is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. SIJC seeks a Participant Engagement Specialist for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP) which provides supervision, case management, and social service connection to thousands of court-mandated participants each year. Reporting to the Clinical Intake Coordinator, the Participant Engagement Specialist will leverage interpersonal and data-management skills to support participants’ successful engagement with the program. The Participant Engagement Specialist will provide outreach to program participants who missed program orientation, intake, and those who have been disengaged for 30 days or more. Additionally, this role will effectively communicate and collaborate with intake, case management, and compliance teams to ensure accurate court reporting and continued program engagement. Job DescriptionStaff Attorney – Consumer Bankruptcy and Education Debt PracticeDEPARTMENT: City Bar Justice Center REPORTS TO: Project Director FLSA STATUS: Exempt The City Bar Justice Center seeks an attorney committed to equal access to justice to join our team as a full-time Staff Attorney principally for our consumer bankruptcy and education debt practice as our organization synergizes the operations of its Consumer Bankruptcy Project and Homeowner Stability Project. The Justice Center provides high-quality, free civil legal services benefiting over 27,000 New Yorkers each year who lack resources to hire private counsel. With a staff of about 50, the Justice Center relies on expansive pro bono partnerships with law firms and corporate legal departments, and also works closely with the courts, the City Bar, and other stakeholders to support and advance the Justice Center’s multiple civil legal services projects. The City Bar Justice Center’s consumer bankruptcy and education debt practice advises individuals burdened with consumer, medical, and student loan debt on rights and remedies available to them under Chapter 7 personal bankruptcy and consumer laws; offers financial literacy education resources to the larger community; and trains and mentors pro bono attorneys to assist clients and support legal clinics, trainings, and presentations. A partnership with the Community Service Society’s Education Debt Consumer Assistance Program is an additional, critical piece of our work assisting federal and private student loan borrowers. The aim of Community First is to create an upstream diversion from arrest and justice system involvement by building supportive relationships with people in need of services and creating linkages to mental health services, housing support, substance use services, and other kinds of social services as needed. Community First is a partnership between Midtown Community Justice Center, Breaking Ground, Fountain House, Times Square Alliance, Housing Works, and Ryan Health. Job Description OBJECTIVES: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer or another senior executive designated by the President and CEO, the Director of Accounting serves as a strategic leader and technical expert for Northside’s accounting function. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the integrity of all accounting operations. The Director will oversee general ledger management, financial statements, audits, internal controls, and accounting policies and procedures. As a key member of the Finance leadership team, the Director of Accounting will collaborate closely with the Director of Finance and other departments to align accounting practices with organizational goals. The position requires a detail-oriented, ethical, and proactive leader who can manage complex accounting processes, mentor staff, and support organizational sustainability through sound financial practices. The Director, Accounting will be available as needed and requested, both in-person and virtually, and will provide support in pursuit of Northside’s mission through other duties as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide experienced accounting leadership and management to enable Northside to achieve its mission, strategy, and operating goals. Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer, other Finance Department leaders, members of the board of directors, and Northside senior and management teams to regularly assess needs for accounting management and support., • Direct and manage core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and month-end/year-end close to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting. Implement and optimize systems, processes, and policies that strengthen accounting efficiency and integrity. Drive strategic improvements in financial planning, budgeting, expense management, and cash flow analysis to support organizational sustainability. Continuously review and enhance accounting practices to achieve operational excellence, reduce risk, and deliver actionable insights for decision-making., • Proactively monitor and adapt to evolving risk management, financial compliance, and regulatory requirements to ensure Northside’s accounting practices remain current and aligned with the organization’s mission., • Ensure that all accounting operations adhere to contractual obligations from funding agencies and donors, as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Drive timely and accurate financial reporting that meets or exceeds regulatory standards, reinforcing Northside’s reputation for excellence. Achieve consistent audit readiness and maintain high-quality, financially sound services that support organizational sustainability and stakeholder confidence., • Recruit, develop, and retain top accounting talent to ensure operational excellence and compliance. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and result-driven culture by providing clear roles, responsibilities, and a well-structured reporting framework. Engage staff in cross-functional projects, budgeting processes, and departmental initiatives to enhance integration, efficiency, and professional growth., • Model leadership as an Accounting Director, technically capable, ethical, respected professional, team player, flexible, and agile, with the ability to work in a complex and fast-paced environment and manage multiple relationships and projects under deadlines., • Knowledge and experience as an Accounting Director with progressive accounting expertise, leadership, and management capability. Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff., • Minimum of 7 years of supervisory experience with increasing managerial responsibility and oversight., • Sound judgment, with the ability to negotiate effectively, manage financial complexity, complicated problem-solving, confidential information, and conflicting priorities., • Confident and collaborative, and the ability to work with a diversity of people and engage people at all levels and across various functions, including working with managers who do not have an accounting background., • Experience with accounting systems, fundraising systems, and software including SAGE, Excel, Concur, Bill.com, database systems, ADP, Raiser’s Edge, and Microsoft platforms., • Strong communications, writing, relationship development, interpersonal, and presentation skills., • Excellent work ethic, • Commitment to working in a mission-driven organization., • Demonstrated personal ethics and values., • Cross-team collaboration and cooperation, • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting required (MBA, M.S. in Finance or Accounting, or CPA desirable), • 6-10 Years of Finance and Accounting experience, including knowledge of grants and government contract reporting and requirements, general ledger systems, insurance, taxes, risk management, strategic planning, and complex consolidated financials., • Experience with Federal, State, and New York City regulatory and funding agencies, and all sources of fundraising grants and contracts., • Strong working knowledge of financial statements, financial management reporting, and record keeping procedures.
