Job Summary Under the direction of radiologist, performs Cat Scan Procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. This position is three weekdays per week, typically Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12p-830p. Essential Functions • Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into Epic and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the scan table in the correct position for the scan to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout image for procedure., • Obtain cross sectional images: This task includes the proper setting of protocols and sequences to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist., • Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring progression of biopsy procedure c) Involved with operating injector when necessary., • Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling scan images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation., • Maintain all necessary records of image slices, injections, etc., • Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff., • Train other associates and students in CAT Scan procedures., • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area., • Perform duties of a 4T technologist as needed., • Perform other related assigned tasks REQUIREMENTS: • High School Diploma or equivalent, • Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training program that meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT., • NYS Licensed/Registered Radiologic Technologist. Responsibilities * Assists, prepares and positions patients as required to perform imaging procedures. * Performs CT Scans and other Diagnostic exams. * Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients' needs. * Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need. * Operates all radiographic imaging equipment associated with CT, including but not limited to injectors. * Prepares patients with aseptic solutions and sterile drapes. * Assists in preparation of sterile surgical instruments and supplies needed for all CT Biopsy examinations. * Assists physician with room set up and procedure, when required, to include opening, and handing guide wires, catheters, etc. * Loads and programs contrast media power injectors according to established departmental procedures. * Prepares and operates equipment, sets controls, establishes proper "programs" under direction of the Radiologist. * Coordinates scan protocols with radiologist. * Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques. * Performs all quality assurance procedures as required. * Ensures all images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP. * Assists physician directly as required. * Evaluates radiographs for technical acceptability and ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion. * Ensures Radiology room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen. * Maintains supplies and accessories in imaging room necessary to safely perform duties, as required. * Accurately records all required patient tracking information into IDX (Radiology Information System). * Schedules exams into IDX (Radiology Information System) as required. * Ensures that all studies performed are completed in IDX (Radiology Information System) in a timely fashion. * Calls for in-patients as required. * Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel. * Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions. * Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol. * Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required. * Maintains in good standing, licensure specific to job to include adherence to Article 35 of the Public Health Code.
