Job Description As part of a growing company and safety team, Osmose is seeking a new Safety Manager for Wood & Technical Services operations will be responsible for safety plans, policies, programs, procedures, training, and audits related to electrical power and communications utility services performed by qualified persons (qualified non-electrical workers and qualified electrical workers)—in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, customer requirements, and industry best practices. Managing a team of field safety specialists, the Safety Manger will work collaboratively with operations leadership, field management, and crews to ensure plans and processes are developed and implemented that support safe operations and continually improve safety performance. The successful candidate will have experience with a distributed workforce (skilled and unskilled)—preferably in the field services industry—who can bring new and creative ideas for engaging employees and supervisors in safety. Responsibilities: Related to underground operations: • Ensure hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures are in place, utilized, and effective; address risks and safety concerns; improve safety performance; identify, implement, and share best practices., • Monitor safety performance metrics and trends (leading and lagging indicators), and develop and lead plans to correct and proactively improve., • Advise, mentor, and assist operations personnel with meeting company, customer, and regulatory requirements and industry best practices., • Review and comment on new service offerings and customer project proposals to anticipate or identify risks and requirements., • Lead or participate in pre-project planning to identify hazards, risks, requirements, and controls, and develop site safety plans and training., • Coordinate, assist, and participate in the design, development, and delivery of safety training and demonstrations of proficiency., • Maintain regular on-site presence at worksites to conduct and document safety observations, inspections, and audits; provide personnel with on-the-spot constructive feedback and coaching to improve knowledge, understanding, behaviors, and performance., • Provide pre-qualification, orientation, safety oversight, and auditing of subcontractors., • Attend customer meetings, and host or participate in customer visits to worksites., • Lead or participate in investigations into safety-related incidents, including the development and closure of corrective and preventive actions; produce final reports for internal use and delivery to customers. As part of the safety team: • Own the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of assigned safety programs., • Assist with the review communication, implementation, and oversight of safety-related policies, programs, and procedures., • Assist with development and delivery of safety-related communications and training (alerts, bulletins, meetings, presentations, videos, etc.), • Must be authuorized to work in US without sponsorship, • Associate’s (two-year) degree; bachelor's degree preferred, • Three (3) or more years of safety experience, • Five (5) or more years of utility, construction, and/or field service industry experience preferred, • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification preferred, • Detailed knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements as they relate to electric power and construction, • Valid state driver’s license, • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams, • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to employees, supervisors, management, and customers. Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar, and style. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The position may also require the employee to occasionally bend, crouch, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, utilize hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, drill), and work with or around chemicals. Work Environment: Position requires working in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, freezing temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, animals, and allergens. The position may require entry into confined spaces, excavations, and trenches. The employee may also be exposed to chemicals (e.g., coatings, concrete, lead, weld fume), energized electrical conductors and equipment, and noise exceeding 85 decibels. Travel Requirements: Position requires regular nationwide overnight travel, approximately 25% to 75%.
