LCSW Behavioral Health Therapist

Job Description Position Purpose: This LCSW will be an employee of JWCH and an extension of the Wesley Behavioral Health Team. However, this individual will serve as a core member of the LACC Behavioral Intervention Team and student discipline/conduct team at LACC and work closely with the Dean of Student Affairs. There is dedicated office space at LACC for this position. The position will provide behavioral health services for college age students and older adults who may be returning to college and will provide crisis intervention, brief and longer-term counseling, some case management, triage & linkages to social services, housing linkages and other services to assist in providing comprehensive services to ensure better health and educational outcomes. The LCSW upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of the Los Angeles area through the direct provision of health care, health education, services, and research. This includes adherence to all legal requirements for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. Principal Responsibilities: • Work closely with the Dean of Student Services on student conduct and behavioral concerns., • Respond to and help de-escalate situations involving students in distress or in conflict with peers, faculty, or staff., • Provide follow-up and ongoing case management for students referred through these processes, and, • Coordinate with existing Wesley behavioral health staff on campus to ensure seamless support and warm handoffs where appropriate., • Collaborates with school-based staff and counselors to assist in screening and providing brief evaluation, crisis intervention and ongoing counseling as required., • Conduct functional and strength-based assessment along with comprehensive diagnosis for mental health, substance abuse, trauma, and psychosocial needs., • Develop student care plans that are coordinated and integrated with a comprehensive range of medical and psychosocial services to address social, emotional, and practical needs., • Provide psychotherapy, counseling, medical case management and psycho-education utilizing individual, family, and group modalities using evidence-based interventions for patients and their significant others that include social, emotional, and practical life skills to facilitate safe coping, distress tolerance, stress reduction, mindfulness, and relaxation as well as access to necessary resources with the goal of improved functioning and positive health outcomes., • Utilize both short-term and intensive longer-term interventions, as approved by funding source that target trauma, mental health symptoms, increase psychosocial functioning and reduction of substance use., • Interventions are client centered; strength based, and identified based on a comprehensive treatment plan that is developed, after completing a thorough biopsychosocial assessment., • Consult with primary care providers to enhance understanding of the patient, provide support for treatment approaches that incorporate behavioral health needs, and assist with implementation of bio-psychosocial treatment and care plans., • Work with Wesley Case Management staff to coordinate care and provide referrals, coordinate services and reduce barriers., • Participates in weekly case conferences with LACC staff and Wesley staff to assist in problem solving related to patients and to ensure that professional guidance and high-quality case management services are being provided., • Participates in LACC and community meetings pertaining to the needs of LACC students., • Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings that are held weekly in the clinics., • Be available as assigned to provide after-hours emergency psychiatric assistance., • Provide phone consultation as needed, • Complete all charting as required by LACC as well as that required by JWCH, including assessments, progress notes, care plans, and billing documentation Encounters must be closed by the end of each shift without except. If supervising ASW’s those encounters should be closed within 5 days from the date of the encounter., • Assist with provider education for integrated behavioral and primary care services, • Participate in behavioral health quality assurance/improvement activities to maintain and strengthen standards of care, in accordance with the organization CQI Plan, • Strick adherence with LCSW Standards of Practice and State of California regulations which may include but are not limited to the required interventions, handling and reporting of: active suicidal or homicidal patients, domestic violence incidents and students that are physically and verbally abusive., • This position may also be requested to provide supervision for ASW’s seeking their licensure. To qualify the LCSW’s that have been licensed for 2 years and have taken the required BBS Supervision course., • Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis., • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions., • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes., • Master’s degree in social work, social welfare, from an accredited college or university., • LCSW with current California BBS license., • Strong desire and documented experience working with College students, many are older adults returning to college as well as unhousing or at high risk of being unhoused., • Experience or knowledge of human, social, and/or behavioral health services, with an emphasis on supporting college-age young adults from low-income and underserved communities., • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma informed care, person centered care and behavioral and medical conditions impacting this population, • Knowledgeable of evidence-based treatments (DBT, CBT, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing), • Knowledge of principles, procedures, methods and techniques of mental health emergency procedures such as: 5150, CPS reporting, APS reporting, and Tarasoff reporting., • Experience working with substance abuse disorders, preferred Employee Benefits: At JWCH Institute, Inc., we believe in taking care of those who take care of others.
